Dr Muralidhar Chandekar is the Principal at VMV JMT and JJP Science College, Nagpur. He has completed his M.Com., M.Phil., and Ph.D. He has been awarded the “Samajik Abhisaran Puraskar” for contribution in the field of education and community services in tribal areas. He has previously worked as a Member of the Executive Committee, Standing Committee of Experience NAAC, Bangalore and Member, Committee constituted by UGC to recommend Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and others. He has been associated with several academic institutions in the region for the enhancement of educational services.

What do you see as VMV JMT and JJP Science College’s greatest strengths?

“Education for the poor, a modern infrastructure, and an array of courses”

The students of our college are poor financially, but we teach them and make them rich in knowledge. A majority of our students come from weaker socio-economic backgrounds. Once they leave the college, they are fully educated and have good placements. In our college, we have a great infrastructure, and we offer a variety of courses. The variety of courses we offer enables us to find ways to attract students who aren't interested in core subjects.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Providing leadership that enables my team to become more effective”

I always believe in hard work and good teaching. I lead my team in such a way that they became their own leaders. Leadership is when you achieve something which you thought of. I always believe in teamwork and achieving goals. In this same format I am running my college, I ensure that every student gets good leadership and mentoring from me and all my team to achieve their life goals.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Building an expert community that can train and guide students”

In the upcoming years, we plan on adding various things to the college. As part of our improvement program, we are adding many new courses to provide students with what they want. Students will be trained and guided by a community of highly skilled individuals. Our company is building infrastructure that includes a digital library, auditoriums, and other facilities. Our institute will become a hub of education as well as a community development centre. We are targeting to spread knowledge among society and students. In addition to digitization, we plan to build a teacher’s training hub at our institute.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Invest in a valuable education and set your sights high”

This field of education should be viewed positively by the student. As the world moves forward, education will be more important than anything else. In these times, obtaining a quality education is crucial because there is nothing easy. To achieve big goals, you need to be creative, smart, passionate, hardworking, flexible, and motivated. Learn from elders, learns from your parents from your grandparents about the importance of a balanced life. 

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“We identify and assist students issues in generating a healthy environment”

Our institute has excellent academics, staff, and non-teaching staff. We have a training program in our institute in which we provide good relationship-building skills to teachers and other staff. We believe in a problem-solving attitude to build a connection between people in our institute and to establish a positive environment.

Any insights into how your College could be more welcoming to students of different backgrounds?

“Financial aid to poor students and equal opportunities”

In our Institute, we welcome students of all backgrounds. As I mentioned, we provide financial aid to poor students, which everyone should do during these troubled times. The organization runs a social work campaign and provides cheap education to the poor and helps them in every way possible. Despite having many students from different backgrounds, we provide them with equal knowledge and resources.

What are some plans that you’re currently designing for the students?

“Industrial and research-based tie-ups for better learning”

In our college, we are focused on tying up with a variety of companies for placements and research-related activities. An industrial and corporate experience can be gained from this program as well. We have also developed best practices for our faculty and are collaborating with many companies on the subject.
