Mr. Ramesh Chandra Mishra is the Managing Trustee cum-president of Vidya Vihar Institute of technology. He believes in imparting quality education to the students via various pragmatic tools available and equipping them with technological advancements to help them build a career. He shares his views about transformational changes required in the system and how it can be implemented. Read here to know his views through his interview. 

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Your success and happiness is dependent on the success and satisfaction of others”

Education is one sector where you get an opportunity to impact and transform thousands of human lives positively. Making others happy, as opposed to having selfish-motives purely, is the best strategy for everlasting motivation. This motivation keeps me connected to the education sector.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“It is essential now to make every stakeholder become a part of decision making”

Our Leadership philosophy has evolved from centralized control initially to collective leadership at various levels now. We have a participative style of management and all actions are based on suggestions that may come from anybody.Everybody needs to be given the opportunity of decision making based on their competence with people higher in the hierarchy, maintaining advisory roles to a large extent. Their competence should be continuously enhanced through training.

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“We help promote quality education via various platforms to help students grow”

The students in the campus belong to all caste, class, religion, race and economic background. They live in total harmony. We are a Ragging-Free Campus since inception. To free them from all biases, Freshers are taught Universal Human Values as a compulsory course during induction. The economic background doesn't matter as any student can get their full education (and associated costs) fully financed through the Student Credit Card program of the Government of Bihar. Students of SC, ST, OBC & Minority Category get Scholarships from government.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“We want to make sure that our university is in sync with the trends of industry”

The sole focus of the University is to implement the New Education Policy 2020 in accordance with all the guidelines. It should become a multi-disciplinary vibrant university offering updated courses in all disciplines i.e, Pure Sciences, Engineering, Medical, Law, Education, Social Sciences, Fine Arts, Vocational courses etc.

How has your vision evolved over time since the time you joined the institute?

“The tracks are laid out; it’s a matter of time for us to evolve as a pinnacle of success”

It has always been our vision that quality education should be accessible to all deserving irrespective of their economic status. Thanks to the Student Credit Card and Scholarship Schemes of the government to a large extent and our in-house scholarships to some extent, we have been successful so far in our effort.

Our reputation has reached far and wide because of the implementation of student scholarships. However in order to be a true alternative to top national level institutes and we need more time and other resources. 

“Our greatest strength is the teamwork and core value system. Every individual is closely associated with the system, which knits us binds us together towards achieving superior goals. We care for each other and the institution. We are confident that our belief will help us climb peaks”

What are some of the biggest challenges for education in general and for VVIT College specifically?

“To decrease and eventually eradicate number of drop-outs is a persisting challenge”

For a developing country like India, accessibility to quality, higher education for all is still the biggest challenge for higher education in general and VVIT College precisely. A large proportion of students drop out before entering college. The revision of the curriculum should be done continuously based on global developments. Lack of awareness and low motivation amongst masses is also a big challenge to overcome.
