Shobha Mukherjee Admission Experience

Did you avail of the benefit of any reservation?

Shobha Mukherjee: “General (No reservation).”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Shobha Mukherjee: “It was an offline GD including 10 candidates and 2 panelists, 1 from finance dept and 1 from marketing dept. We were given 5 minutes time to think on the GD topic before we started. GD was an aggressive one as the topic demanded few unique points to be included. It was not an abstract one.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Shobha Mukherjee: “GD topic was an -infusion of FDI in India - Boon or Bane?.”

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Shobha Mukherjee: “There are two modes of infusing FDI in India - One is by target and other is by motive. FDI is a high contributor to GDP, boosts employment, infuses money in the economy, increases the money supply, wherein investors get the confidence to set up new industries, can import raw materials for starting in house production of goods, increases per capita income, increases consumption, which further brings down the interest rates as well due to huge circulation in the economy. People get motivated to take loans from banks due to low-interest rates to start cottage industries.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Shobha Mukherjee: “Mode was offline. And I had the same panelist as GD. They were college faculties themselves. It was a stressful interview where I was asked a few questions from my undergrad subject that were intentionally done to test my deep knowledge of the subject.”

Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Shobha Mukherjee: “1. Did any country ever experience a negative growth rate?

A: Brazil and Russia

  1. If it did then what was the year?

A: 2014, Brazil contracted by 2.6% and Russia by 4.6%.

  1. What is meant by a negative interest rate policy?

A: A negative interest rate policy (NIRP) is a monetary policy tool where central banks set target interest rates below zero percent. NIRP is seen as a “last resort” policy to use after exhausting all other options. The theory in support of a NIRP is that it would encourage borrowing, incentivize lending, decrease saving, and increase spending and investment.

  1. What is the motive behind initiating interest policy by central banks?

A: During the global financial crisis of 2008-09, many central banks cut interest rates close to zero. With their economies still struggling in the years that followed, policymakers in the eurozone, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and Japan allowed rates to fall to slightly below 0%.

  1. Which country did so and when? Any current example of implementing the negative interest rate policy?

A: Countries that implemented NIRPs in the past include Switzerland in the 1970s, Sweden in 2009, Denmark in 2012, and Japan in 2014. The European Central Bank (ECB) also set interest rates below zero in 2014.

Recent Example: The Bank of Japan went negative in 2016, mostly to prevent a strengthening yen from hurting its export-heavy economy. The BOJ uses aggressive asset purchases to guide short-term rates to -0.1% and the long-term rate to about zero.”

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Shobha Mukherjee: “1. ROI

  1. Home State
  2. Last year placements"

What was the reason for you not converting other colleges? (if any)

Shobha Mukherjee: “Applied for SIIB & SCIT. Converted both but did not take admission. SIIB stream is not that interesting. SCIT's ROI was not that great for DSDA.”
