Mody University

Dr. V.K. Jain is the is the Dean at MODY University (School of Engineering and Technology). He holds a Ph.D in Computer Science and Engineering from Devi Ahilya University. He has 24 years of experience in the academic sector. Read what he has to say in his interview.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority for the next 5 years?

“Catering to the needs of the changing industry”

The foremost priority for the university is to accelerate the student startups so that University can contribute good women entrepreneurs to India. With this intent, the University has established the Center for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (CIIE). The objective is to focus on industry-oriented research which may facilitate various industries in terms of consultancies. In 2016 we have started Biomedical Engineering and in 2020 we have started a new program i.e. B.Tech. in Bioengineering and we have one of the best Biomedical Engineering laboratories in the entire northern India. As per the demand of the current era, more industry-oriented programs are going to be started. The University is consistently working on strengthening tie-ups with globally acclaimed institutions so that the students as well as academia of the University can be benefitted from various aspects. We also plan to obtain NAAC Accreditation, QS ranking, NIRF ranking Institution of Eminence status.

What is your strategy to make MODY different from the other institutions?

“The curriculum and practices make our students globally acceptable”

As per my experience from various institutions of National and International repute, we are practicing novel and innovative ideas in academics like Project-Based Learning

Students are exposed to the projects from the first semester in a group. A special emphasis is put on the Faculty Mentor-Mentee concept for better learning and personalized attention to each student. We are also focusing a lot on student clubs and societies because such societies are necessary for the holistic development of the student.

“MODY University is one of the few institutions in India to have ABET accreditation.”

How does an engineering program ensure a practical approach when it is being taught?

“Including the valuable inputs by the industry personnel”

As the current industrial demands are changing rapidly especially in the domain of engineering, hence, our prime focus always remains to enrich our pool of elective courses in consultation with industry partners. Accordingly, teaching pedagogy needs to be reengineered. As a result, all our classrooms are smart in terms of audiovisual aids, the internet, etc. We have also kept a few credits that are to be earned by the student by undergoing MOOC course(s), which motivates the student for self-learning. So it will benefit the students in the realization of their theoretical knowledge into practice and their quality to work in a team that will be nurtured. Since we are practicing such concepts for a long time as a result our placement records are exemplary from almost the last two decades.

What is the future scope of this course from your institution?

“Keeping students at par with the industrial demands”

We are not newbies in imparting engineering education. Rather we are almost 22 years old institution and since then we are seamlessly preparing vibrant engineers to National and International community every year. We provide ample opportunities to all students for undergoing internships in National and International companies/ organizations of repute. Moreover, many CMM-5 levels and Blue chip companies are continuously visiting us for recruitment over more than a decade.

What is your approach to making a healthy environment for your students?

“Bringing the members close by encouraging them to participate in different activities”

Healthy is a multifaceted word in terms of academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. In my viewpoint, an environment that leads to the holistic development of a student is a healthy environment. Hence, we are providing and supporting our students at different levels. We have a lot of technical societies like IEEE, ACM, IET, CSI, IETE, ISTE, SWE and different cultural societies. We encourage and recommend our students to participate in technical and other events organized by other institutions or governments.

“MODY University has a huge pool of CMM-5 level companies and Blue Chip companies regularly visiting the campus for their recruitment drive.”

What suggestions would you like to give to the current engineering students?

“Aim at developing yourself as an individual, not just an employee”

My suggestions to young engineering students revolve around the fact that “there is no alternate for hard work”. In the current era, only technical knowledge is not going to serve the purpose. Technical knowledge is essential to make you employable but it’s not sufficient. Our young generation must work hard on soft skills as well. You must undergo quality projects which may be commercialized with the help of industrial linkages into good startups.
