Mr R.Shashi Kumar Reddy is the Head of the EEE Department with the Sumathi Reddy Institute of Technology for Women, Warangal, Telangana. He has 16 years of work experience in the education and research sector and especially in the department of EEE. He has completed his M.Tech (Control Systems) and Information Technology. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“An innate desire to help learners in their academic journey”

I feel being Head of the Department for the EEE branch in this college is one of the challenging key positions I have come across in my professional career until now. As a HOD and as a professor I had to manage both the tasks parallelly and also my point of contact with the student’s changes with the roles. When I think about the education sector there are certain factors that hit my mind. These include the competitive spirit, quench for learning and implementing pedagogical practices for scholastic performance and improving students with practical examples.

How does the curriculum of Sumathi Reddy college ensure the best practice of industry?

“Industry aligned syllabus allowing holistic growth of students”

The curriculum design is based on certain factors such as student interest, physical education, future scope, outside competition, practical knowledge, etc. The syllabus is framed in view of industry requirements from time to time. More emphasis is given to practical sessions which are outcome-based activities. While designing the curriculum the organization ensures to carefully choose the components that need to be included. Once the curriculum is designed, the next step is to deliver it effectively to the students.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students?

“Focus on career opportunities, aspirations and plans for the future”

My advice to students is that they should be ready to accept the new challenges in life. They must be competitive in nature and especially should be goal-oriented. They should take advantage of each and every opportunity to compete along with fellow students. They have to assess their strengths and weaknesses by discussing them with parents, friends and teachers. Students have to develop a keen interest in the subject area of their choice and gain additional knowledge.

What do you think your responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“To create an environment that is conducive to learning and growth”

My primary role is to provide strong academic leadership in the college. I should lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. I also want to be an active member both as faculty and Head. When coming to the responsibilities of students firstly, I should be a facilitator and mentor. 

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of students?

“Student activities clubs that include arts, sports, NCC, etc”

Our college prioritizes mental and physical health, hence we regularly organize students centric extracurricular activities. Each student club has a faculty mentor to guide the students while conducting the activities. Activities such as NCC, NSS, and sports will be conducted, as well as clubs like arts, IEE, and many more. In these activities, students actively participate, ensuring that their minds are relaxed and at peace. A number of events will be held every year to honour the teachers, students, and others who have helped the college gain fame.

What are the new programs introduced at your college?

“We will soon be introducing courses in AI, ML, IoT, etc”

We stick to the curriculum which ensures the betterment of the student. As per the design of the curriculum, our college has sufficient programs included until now and we are also planning to introduce new ones related to the CSE department next year. Data science, Machine learning, the Internet of things, Artificial intelligence and cyber security are some of the courses which we were planning to introduce next year.

What are the salary trends of students placed by your college?

“Highest salary package of INR 20 LPA offered to a student of our college”

Placements have been increasing every year and especially this year the college has received the highest package placement of INR. 20 LPA. The average package of placements in the college is INR. 4.5 LPA. Our placement team is working very hard in bringing top companies for placement drives and we saw that the rate of placements has been increasing. In order to ensure the high rate of placements, our college is also providing placement training for the students so that they become industry-ready and increase their aptitude skills.
