Collegedunia Team: Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any).

Kanha: IIFT Kolkata does not conduct any GD or WAT. Instead there was an extempore round for the admission process.

Collegedunia Team: What was the WAT/GD Topic?

Kanha: The topic for the Extempore round was- Should reality shows like Shark Tank India be promoted?

Collegedunia Team: Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Kanha: There were 3 faculty members in my panel consisting of faculty from both Delhi and Kolkata campus. The interview was held online and it lasted for about 15-20 minutes. A fresher would be on the receiving end of academics related questions, largely focusing on their core graduation subjects. I was asked some fundamental economics questions, most of them were conceptual and required application of basic knowledge of the subject.

Pro Tips: Do prepare some general knowledge questions that are directly or indirectly related to your academic background.

Collegedunia Team: Mention at least 5 questions that were asked in IIFT Kolkata Interview and how you responded to each of them?

Kanha: Faculty 1 appreciated my points in the extempore round.

Collegedunia Team: Mention any three reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Kanha: I chose IIFT Kolkata over the new IIMs that I had converted namely IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak and IIM Ranchi (along with some other new IIMs placed below them).

1) The placement figures of IIFT as a brand are far better than the new IIMs, so it gave me a concrete reason to make that choice.

2) Very few colleges offer a degree in MBA since most of the institutions offer a diploma course to the students. MBA in International Business is a very sought after course and not many institutions offer that.

3) Addition of trade specialisation for placements as well as the curriculum adds another perk to IIFT.

Collegedunia Team: What was the reason for you not converting other colleges?

Kanha: I couldn't convert to any top 6 B-schools because of my low CAT score. I had scored 97.56%ile in the exam which is not good enough for a general category candidate in order to get a shot at the top 6 IIMs. I believe that my strategy hadn't gone wrong, it was my temperament while appearing for the exams that cost me a good chance to score high.
