Priyanshu Goyal Admission Experience:

  1. Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Priyanshu Goyal: As far as I remember, the time provided in my WAT was 5 minutes to think about all the points and 15 minutes to write down the answer. The space provided was one & a half page.

Topic - Do you think CSR activities should be made mandatory in corporations?

Pro Tip - If you do not have knowledge about any particular topic (like I didn't have during my WAT), never take a hard stand. Always go for a general answer.

My strategy was - IF CSR activities are good for the stakeholders, then we can make it mandatory and if they are not, we shouldn't mandate them.

  1. What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Priyanshu Goyal: Do you think CSR activities should be made mandatory in corporations?

  1. Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Priyanshu Goyal: My interview was taken by the faculty members of IIM Rohtak. There were 2 faculties in my panel - 1 male and 1 female. The interview mode was offline and the duration of the interview was close to 25 minutes. It wasn't exactly a stressful interview but also not a chill one. It was more of a grilling one.

Pro tip - Never let them feel that you have surrendered.

  1. Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Priyanshu Goyal: Q.1: What is the difference between Cost Accounting, Management Accounting and Finance Accounting.

Answer: Cost accounting is related to overall cost that the company incurs during production. Every tiny cost is covered in this.

Management Accounting is the one which helps the management to take day to day decisions. The MANAC can simply be forecasted cost or revenue figure according to which management adjusts their decision making.

Finance Accounting is a collaboration of both Cost and Management Accounting.

Q.2: Do you think sports spectatorship is biased towards Cricket?

Answer: Yes, Even Sunil Chhetri had to beg to Indian spectators to come visit the ground and cheer the football team up.

Q.3: Do you read the newspaper daily?

Answer: No, I do not read newspapers as such but I am aware about the happenings in our economy.

Q.4: Mention some latest news that you have read.

Answer: Told about the recent changes in monetary policies by RBI

Q.5: Do you have any questions for us?

Answer: No sir, thank you so much for the opportunity.

  1. Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Priyanshu Goyal: I compared IIM Kashipur with IIM Amritsar, so here is what I came up with -

1). Kashipur has a permanent campus which Amritsar doesn't have.

2). Kashipur comes under New IIMs and Amritsar comes under baby IIMs. It mattered to me to go to the second generation of IIMs.

3). Kashipur Hostel has single occupancy rooms whereas Amritsar has double.

  1. What was the reason for you not converting to other colleges?

Priyanshu Goyal: I could have easily converted to MDI Gurgaon because my GD and WAT were pretty awesome. The only mistake I made was that I performed poorly in my PI. It was a stressful interview and I gave up.

I got 700+ rank and if I would have given a good PI, I could have come closer and converted it.
