Shweta Lalwani is working as a HOD at the School of Management, of Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur, Rajasthan. She has an experience of total 14 years in the education sector. You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To keep up the urge to think and grasp new ideas are the primary factors that connect me with the education sector”

Education sector enables continuous learning at every stage of your career. It keeps up the urge to think and grasp new ideas. The interaction with students and facilitating them in their holistic development keeps me motivated to pursue my future goals in this sector.


What do you think your roles and responsibilities as HOD Management are to SPSU and the students? And how do you train faculties to deliver the Program?

“Focus on overall personality grooming of pupils on campus”

All my thoughts and efforts are focused towards achieving the vision of the university to become a world class institution in imparting knowledge. Quality and commitment towards the work are the key drivers to achieve this vision. At the School of Management skill development amongst the students is emphasized. Entrepreneurial qualities or leadership skills are developed and special focus is given on the overall personality grooming of the students. We have a very qualified team of faculties who support the department in its endeavor to develop students to be future leaders. Teamwork is the key to success and it is practiced at SOM, or SPSU.


When you first held the position of HOD in management, what was your vision for the Institute? How far have you achieved the same?

“Organize regular classes and events on campus for students”

In my tenure as HOD , I am proud to say the university could achieve the target placements of 100%. Even though the pandemic disturbed the curriculum delivery, the students were kept engaged through online classes. We are provided them with an unstoppable learning environment. Our department conducted regular classes and also events such as Management Fest-Tarang were organized in an online mode which speaks volumes about our commitment towards holistic development of Students.

With the coming scenario where do you see the future management in India?

“To develop these analytical skills and ensure employability of pupils”

As we are entering Industry 5.0, advanced technologies would be used in every sphere of work. Human interaction with machines and robots will enhance the role of B-schools and become more important in developing traits such as initiative, critical thinking, creativity, resilience, patience, empathy etc. amongst the students. Development of analytical skills have also become very essential. The School of Management has recently partnered with SAS to offer MBA in Business Analytics. Our program will help the students to develop these analytical skills and ensure employability. The knowledge of Fintech, analytics, digital business will be of great importance in future for the students thus, pursuing careers in management will be of prime importance in future.

Our campus aims at building good citizens of the future by inculcating in them awareness about sustainable environment practices and commitment towards society through its NSS and NCC activities. It has more than 20 student-led clubs focusing not just on sports but also dance, music, literature and so on aiming at all round development of students.


How do the curriculum, activities/ programs enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Industrial visits, expert talks, seminars, conferences and more are given to students”

At SOM case study pedagogy is strongly emphasized. Our school also organizes industrial visits, expert talks, seminars, conferences to bridge the gap between industry and academia. We are providing maximum real life working exposure to the students. Our curriculum also encompasses summer internships, live projects etc. to develop project management skills amongst the students.


What plans are you currently designing to ensure the best management practices in SPSU?

“Collaborations with foreign universities for exchange programmes to provide global exposure to the students” 

Regular curriculum revisions based on industry inputs and encouraging entrepreneurship amongst students. Our campus is organizing very frequent industrial visits for a good industry exposure to the students. Collaborations with foreign universities for exchange programmes to provide global exposure to the students will be focused.
