What is your opinion on the New Education Policy 2020?

“NEP will bring major transformation in the education system”

The New Education Policy’s ideals include the “complete realization and liberation of the self,” re-establishment of teachers as “the most respected and essential members of our society”, and the provision of access to education for students from all backgrounds despite “inherent obstacles”.

The NEP has proposed some significant changes concerning higher education. First is establishing a HECI, or Higher Education Commission of India, which replaces the current regulatory bodies, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). With this, the HECI will be the sole regulatory authority of the entire higher education system. The second is the National Accreditation Council (NAC), responsible for rating and accrediting colleges based on specific criteria, including good governance and basic norms. The Higher Education Grants Council (HEGC), the third body under HECI, is responsible for financing colleges and universities. The fourth body, the General Education Council (GEC), is in charge of framing the National Higher Education Qualification Framework (NHEQF). Overall, the HECI has been set up to quote the policy, “ “light but tight” regulation by a single regulator for higher education.”

The other important facet of the proposal is the complete restructuring of the higher education system by introducing a multidisciplinary undergraduate program. It will bring a far greater level of flexibility within the higher education system.

What will you say are the “best practices” in PVPIT,Sangli?

“We make sure to bring in practical problem-solution based approach for our students to learn”

We promote practical implementation of the curriculum. We focus on agriculture based project work for final year students, where the objective of such practice is fourfold.

  •  To reduce manual work in agriculture,
  • to increase interaction between farmers and faculties to solve the actual problem
  • to design and manufacture agriculture equipments at low cost
  • to reduce cycle time of various agriculture operations.

The recent era in agriculture is the development that needs equipment that will give benefits to farmers at low cost. The institute is committed to its vision to serve society through the design and manufacturing of agricultural-based equipment. Since the institute is situated in a rural area, 70% of the institute's students belong to farmer families. So students of the institute are in contact with farming problems and different practical issues in farming. Also, farmers' help is taken for defining actual problems. So project work is based on fundamental farming issues, which will help farmers after the crisis.

We have decided to establish an innovation Incubation and start-up center at our institute. It will be open to all students, internal and external, and provide support to all students to convert their ideas into products. We foresee developing industry-sponsored laboratories in all departments with state of the art technologies being practiced in the industry. Our vision is to create the students to serve society through their noble services; hence we are focusing on holistic education to students to teach the right attitude and sensitivity for the social cause.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Leadership should be impactful”

The educational philosophy of leadership is what I believe is the best way forward. In a nutshell, it would indeed begin and end with developing a positive culture that students, staff, and community members race to be a part of, rather than finding ways to escape.

Educational administrators must build relationships with all stakeholders, and build leadership capacity by empowering students and educators. They should lead by doing. I want to be a leader who explicitly communicates with all stakeholders and passionately, and implements the above critical components for creating a positive learning culture within a school or system.
