Dr. Priyank Singhal is working as an Associate Professor, at the College of Computing Sciences and Information Technology (CCSIT) at Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is Ph.D. in Computer Applications from Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad. He received his M.C.A. degree from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, U.P., PGDCA from M. J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, U.P., and B. Sc from M. J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. He also holds a Diploma in Application Development and Web Design from STG (Software Technology Group), New Delhi. He is a Cisco Certified Instructor and Legal Main Contact for Cisco Networking Academy at Teerthanker Mahaveer University. He has teaching experience of 16+ years. He has taught subjects that include Advanced Computer Networks, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Software Engineering, Information Storage and Management, Simulation and Modeling, Digital Electronics, Discrete Mathematics, Object Oriented Programming Concepts, C Programming, and System Analysis and Design. His research interests include Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Computer Networks, Workflow Technologies and Software Engineering & Project Management. He has published more than 50 research papers in international journals (including SCOPUS and UGC-listed journals) and conferences. He has published more than 6 Indian patents. He has delivered workshops at Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar on Computer Networking and UML. He has delivered guest lectures on Computer Networking and Internet of Things for the students of the Trinity Institute of Professional Studies (affiliated with GGSIPU, New Delhi). His book chapter has been published in a book (Titled - Explainable AI: Foundations, Methodologies, and Applications) under Springer Nature. Currently, under his supervision, three research scholars are doing their Ph.D. research work from TMU in Machine Learning, Green Computing, and the Industrial Internet of Things.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"Always keep a positive and cooperative mindset"

The key factors for establishing healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty members are our behavior and a positive mindset. I always try to spare time for my students whenever they are facing any problems. I feel motivated to counsel my students whenever such a need arises. Because of this, the students feel comfortable approaching me. With my fellow faculty colleagues, I always keep a positive and cooperative mindset and this helps me to have good relations with them and also they all cooperate with me.


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

"Subjects are made interesting and Industry oriented"

The subjects that I teach majorly include computer networks, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, software engineering, and software testing. The subjects are made interesting and Industry oriented by discussing real industry examples and case studies. Students are given some assignments and related project work that help them to understand how these technological concepts will be applied in the industry.


How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it fit the students?

"Curriculum is updated periodically"

The curriculum is designed by keeping in mind the latest technological developments in the market. The feedback system is used to take inputs from the corporate world, the alumni students, the academic experts, and other stakeholders. Based on feedback, the curriculum for different degree programs is framed, and also the curriculum is updated periodically.


Being a faculty of the computer science department, what are your roles and responsibilities to the students?

"Development in terms of academics and personality"

I, being the associate professor in the Department of computer science and applications, have to perform various roles and responsibilities toward the students. Apart from delivering subject knowledge in the classroom during the lectures, I am responsible for ensuring that students are understanding properly and gaining the desired skill that will make them industry ready to perform well. I am also responsible to motivate students for their all-around development in terms of academics and personality.

How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

The competition in the corporate world is high and to cope with such an environment, students are regularly made aware of the latest job trends and developments in the IT industry. They are motivated to develop and learn multiple skills. As the industry currently requires those fresh talents that are capable of solving real-world problems by applying the approach of using technology integration.


Do you have any extracurricular activities programs to enhance the skills of the students and expose them to real-world challenges?

Yes, we have extracurricular activity programs for the skill enhancement of our students. Extracurricular activities include - NSS activities, cultural events on various festivals, outdoor visits, sports events, social activities, etc. Participation in these activities helps the students to learn about teamwork and how to face healthy competition with their fellow mates.


What are the challenges you faced and are facing to uplift the quality of Education in your department?

Initially when we had not achieved the status of a University, during that time the challenge was that the curriculum was not updated and Industry oriented. Since 2008 we have been established as a state-private university in Uttar Pradesh, we design the curriculum that is of industry orientation and update it regularly. Another challenge is that somewhere some of the students avoid giving sufficient time to learning and practical implementation of the concepts.


When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

When I came to college and started my teaching career, I had the vision to make my students bacome critical thinkers who can solve real-world problems. I try to achieve this by using the latest and innovative teaching skills along with incorporating real-world case studies and by involving students to solve problems that require their technical skills.


What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students?

Apart from the curriculum, the students are required to undergo summer internships project work and they are supposed to submit mini project and major project work during their final year. They are also motivated to participate in competitions like the smart India hackathon, International conferences, industry-oriented seminars and webinars, and other competitions organized by various IT industry giants.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

"Success comes to those who are ready to pay the price for it"

I would like to advise students that to have a prosperous career they must focus on some of the important key factors. These key factors include developing multiple technical skills, a problem-solving attitude, the zeal to work as a motivated team player, good communication skills, and cooperative behavior. Success comes to those who are ready to pay the price for it and the price is consistent and committed hard work with a positive mindset.
