K Priyadharshini is an Assistant Professor of the ECE Department in the SRM TRP Engineering College, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. She did ME and pursuing Ph.D. She is a life member of EMEC and IAENG. She has more than 10 years of teaching experience throughout her career.

Being a Faculty of the ECE Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To mentor and teach the students on academics is my primary duty”

As an Assistant professor, my main role is to teach and mentor the students on academics. We motivate them to involve in co-curricular activities and help them in improving academic performance.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty in SRM TRP Engineering College?

“Maintain a healthy relationship through a friendly and helpful approach on campus”

Coming to the students, we never insist them to follow rules and regulations. But we will make them realize what good happens to them if they follow the rules. They can realize what happens if they don’t follow the rules and regulations. This helps us maintaining a healthy relationship with students. Coming to the fellow faculty, we will be very friendly and helpful to each other in every situation.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

“Arrange internships, workshops and free camps for students”

The main thing we do for students to increase the practical approach is taking to Industrial visits. Recently, we have taken them to “ISRO Sriharikota” to help learn things practically. Also, in their semester holidays we will be arranging internship programmes which help them learn things and clear doubts by themselves. We will take them to these types of camps and labs when they are free. So, they can use their free time productively. Recently, we also organized a workshop called Deep Learning Workshop.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from SRM TRP Engineering College?

“Offers interview training, exam coachings and other programs to students”

Coming to the placements, we are conducting many drives not only in final year but also from 3 rd year students from ECE Department selected for an internship with 7lpa. For higher education, we are providing training for the students who applied for exams GATE, CAT, IELTS etc. Coming to the entrepreneur, we have an EVC cell in our college in which we conduct entrepreneurship programmes for the students.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“Taking sessions online during covid and good labs are the greatest challenge for us”

We faced challenges when the covid hit. Students are studying through online mode because of not having physical classes. It became difficult to the students to have their practical sessions. But, now everything is being solved and students were again facilitated with good labs. So, they can have good practical knowledge.

What do you see as the department's greatest strength of SRM TRP Engineering College?

“Healthy relationships between students and faculties are our greatest strengths”

The main strength of the department is healthy or friendly relationship between students and faculty. They all work together and solve problems when an issue occurs. From students side, they will act as volunteers whenever staff or department needs them. A student's discipline is also a good strength for the department.

What valuable advice would you like to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Help your youngsters and attain a good position easily”

My advice to the students is to help their juniors after they are in a good position which is happening in our college. We are arranging meetings in which alumni of the college participate and give valuable advice to their juniors. Our alumni who are in foreign countries will be connecting with us through online mode and share their experiences. They are working in a specific company and will be taking a session or advising their juniors about the drive process.
