Dr. R. Sathishkumar has been working as an Associate Professor in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at SRM TRP Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Being a Faculty of EEE Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"Delivery of lectures and addressing students queries and issues on time are my responsibilities"

As an Associate Professor, the ambiance of my responsibilities encompasses both academic and non-academic tasks. As I need to deliver lectures to students on a daily basis and also have to address their academic and personal issues and queries. 

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By interacting with them on a regular basis and ensuring a fear free and trustworthy communication environment for them"

To establish cordial relationships with my students, I interact with them on a regular basis and make sure that I remain more of a friend than a teacher so that they can easily share their doubts, issues and fear with me. And when it comes to my fellow faculty, we act as a family member and as a team to complete the tasks with the support of each other. My main idea behind using this kind of approach is that everyone should feel complete freedom and respect while communicating with me by keeping the environment transparent. 

How do you bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

"By organizing professional visits for them and offering apprenticeship opportunities to them"

To enforce the industry driven and practical approach towards subjects, we organize industrial visits to Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Infosys like organization and also conduct industry interaction sessions on a regular basis. These visits also help our students to stay updated about the industrial practices, processes and clear their subject related doubts. Apart from this, they are offered internships in reputed companies to help them utilize their skills in real time projects and also make them learn new things while interacting with industry experts.

How do you prepare your students to deal confidently with the outside competitive world?

"We train them via Skill Development Trainings and by offering them value-based courses"

For the purpose of preparing our students to compete confidently and courageously in the outside world, we organize Life Skill Trainings and also offer them a wide variety of Value-Added Courses to them from first year onwards. This approach helps us to work collaboratively with other colleges and also to educate ourselves and our students about the trends, development of the outside world and corporate sector and what they expect from our students to deliver once they are onboarded. 

What are your views upon the placements and higher education of students from your department?

"They are provided industry-oriented training programs before sitting for placement"

We have an amazing record of 100% placement every year. And we give placement oriented rigorous training programs for students who want to do a job in the core or IT company after their Graduation and counseling sessions are arranged for those who want to go abroad for higher studies. 

Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the students skills?

"Events like Hackathons, seminars, College and Project Days are organized by us from time to time"

We totally understand that extra-curricular activities are equally important as academics for the all around development of students. Hence we regularly organize technical events like Hackathons, sports events, Project Day to give a platform to students to showcase their amazing projects and presentation skills, College Day to educate students about our college and cultural activities to bring out their hidden talents.

The main pillars of our department which simultaneously makes us strong is our dedicated team of highly educated and experienced faculty members. More than 50% of our faculty has a Doctorate Degree which proves their expertise in their respective subjects.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Keep your 10+2 concepts crystal clear and stay dedicated towards your goals"

My suggestion for my dear students is to build a strong base of science-based subjects and especially 11th and 12th class syllabus should be crystal clear in your mind. Also define short term achievable goals for yourself and give your 100% to achieve them by being perseverance, dedicated and disciplined.
