Dr Kabita Sarkar is the Head of the Mathematics Department at the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology, Kolkata. She has completed her Ph.D. studies and is a dedicated academician. What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Deliver knowledge and skills to our students with a high level of competency”

Being a dignitary of the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology, I think my prime responsibility towards my students is to take them to the highest level of excellence. We make sure that we deliver knowledge and skills to our students in order for them to reach the highest peak in their careers. We try to achieve this by our teaching methods and practical approach to subjects.


How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated?

“We design curriculum by combining theories with practical and experimental applications”

Whenever possible, we strive to apply theories in practice or through experimentation to strategize the curriculum. This helps us appropriately build efficient strategies. The curriculum at Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology gets updated every academic year to make it befitting for the students. We update it as per the latest requirements by relevant industries and by doing so we are able to deliver the best to our students.


What has been your vision for this college?

“Establishing our institute as a renowned Institute of excellence”

The vision I had when I joined the college was to reach the next stage of excellence. I am trying to achieve the same by training my students to practice regularly to perform well when they enter the job industry. We like to lead by example and hence I try to fulfill my responsibility first.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of the industry?

“A syllabus that aligns to the current industry requirements”

The curriculum of our college in fact ensures the best practice of the industry by providing the best training to its students. In our training program, we strive to prepare our students well for the challenges they will face in the future as well as in life in general.


How does the college enhance the skills of the faculty?

“FDP’S and training sessions along with workshops on latest academic developments”

We at Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology believe that most of our faculty members are more than efficient if not over-skilled. We prepare our faculty as per the industry standards by regularly observing their performance and guiding them on the same. We also motivate them to participate in various Faculty development programs and training sessions.


What do you see as the college’s greatest strengths?

“A modern pedagogy and superior teaching methodologies”

I believe the greatest strength of our college is our teaching method. The teaching method here can be enhanced simply by performing regularly in a disciplined manner. Through this, we will achieve our objective and remain successful.

What are some of the biggest challenges in the higher education sector?

“A need of strategic future planning and self-motivation towards studies”

According to my observations, I feel in general there is a lack of energy to study. Lack of proper planning and implementation of ideas are the biggest challenges we face specifically at Swami Vivekananda Institute of Science and Technology. We are trying our best to handle these challenges in ways that work the best for faculty as well as students.
