Dr. Chandan Choudhary has been working as an Assistant Professor of MIT Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He has done BE in Mechanical and Production Engineering and M. Tech and PhD in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering as part of his academics. And he has 2+ years of teaching experience. He started his career as a Research Engineer with ARAI, Pune and later joined MIT Aurangabad as a Professor. He has also published 17 research papers in reputed national and international journals.

We have designed the curriculum of our newly introduced B. Tech (AI and DS) Degree course after taking valuable inputs from the industry's stakeholders and reputed academicians. Apart from this, we are following the Washington Accord on Outcome Based Education and we are planning to implement the NEP 2020 in our courses curriculum. What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute?

We have a Curriculum Design Committee in our college which conducts meetings at the beginning and end of every semester to design and renew the curriculum in accordance with the latest and future needs of the market and after taking everyone's suggestions. Also, our curriculum is updated every 2 years and through this we offer a wide range of Honor & Minor courses to our students so that they can explore the available opportunities in the outer world. 


How do the programs of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and the World Economic Forum is also looking at India to be a manufacturing hub as most of the manufacturing industries are going to set their plants in our nation. Industry 5.O is the future of manufacturing industries in which Robotics & Automation along with Data Management will play key roles which ultimately will create amazing opportunities for students. Hence, our aim of introducing this course was to prepare our students for a promising future. 


How did you train your faculty to deliver this program to students in the best possible way?

"They are trained and upskilled through FDPs, seminars, workshops and NPTEL certification courses"

When we introduced this course in our curriculum, expert faculties were hired to teach the students. And some faculties were even deputed to learn the advanced tool through NPTEL programs and 3 months industry on-site training. Apart from this, we regularly motivate them to attend Faculty Development Programs, Conferences and Workshops to enhance their knowledge in accordance with market needs.


How do you build a strong connection between your institute courses and industrial demands?

"We organize industry meet-ups and expert lectures to bridge the gap between our courses and industry demands"

In today's dynamic world, along with academics, industrial exposure is very important for students' growth as they are the main pillar for the development of our nation. Hence, to enforce a strong connection between our courses and industrial requirements, we regularly organize industry connect sessions, meet-ups, guest lectures and several professional bodies activities in collaboration with industry experts and eminent academicians. And we also engage people from the corporate in our curriculum development and review process to make it more compliant with best industrial practices and standards. 


What challenges are you facing while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

"Making students aware about the available job opportunities for this course and lack of skilled faculties are major issues"

The major challenge in front of us currently is to convince students about the benefits and job opportunities of this newly introduced B. Tech program which we are offering in the domain of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, because usually students select either Computer Science and Engineering or Mechanical Engineering as their specialization in Graduation. Apart from this, we have shortage of Doctorate faculties to teach AI and DS to students, so that's another roadblock for us.

On what kinds of projects your students are currently working on under their respective courses?

"Our students are working on automation based projects"

Our college follows a problem-based learning approach and we regularly encourage our students to think of innovative solutions for real world issues. And keeping the same thing in mind, they are currently working on projects related to automation and data handling. And we have established an Engineering Exploration Lab and Siemens Centers of Excellence Kab for our students' benefit and also to assist them for their major and minor projects.

As far as I have observed the corporate world, I can rest assure you that tremendous opportunities are available in the outside world for skilled professionals. And after pursuing a B. Tech degree courses in the discipline of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, our students can easily get a job in the Mechanical or in Software Development firms as reputed core companies are looking for an expert with amazing skills who can efficiently handle the available data and can optimize it through a standardized approaches instead of using hit and trial methods. Also, students can apply for higher education besides doing a full time job.
