KMBB College of Engineering and Technology

Dr. Bhabani Prasanna Pattanaik is the Principal at KMBB College of Engineering and Technology. He believes in empowering students and education front with modern technological changes and adapting to industrial trends. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“It is essential to motivate students to drive them towards successful path ahead”

Holding critical positions at education institutes makes sense of responsibility towards imparting quality education. It is essential to have a well-planned and efficiently implemented academic curriculum with a focus on knowledge enhancement of students. The key factors that keep me connected with the education sector are my passion towards teaching as well as contributing to the development of our younger generation in the field of engineering and technology.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Leaders must have a vision and articulate it clearly to provide direction for the group they serve”

Leaders need to provide leadership opportunities for others to foster growth and share responsibility for attaining goals. As an educational leader, I have a responsibility to set high standards for teaching and learning. These standards are set through the vision. To create positive results in a technical institution, the leader’s first task is to develop and articulate a clear vision for the institution. As the Principal of KMBB College of Engineering and Technology, it is my job to base all decisions on the vision and mission of this institute. Every initiative that is implemented must be aligned with the vision and mission; it is the guiding principle for all that we do. Therefore, it is extremely important that the administration involves representatives of all stakeholders including faculty members, support staff, community members, and students in the formulation of this vision and mission and utilizes those resources to communicate the same throughout the community.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“The overarching goal of marketing is to attract and retain more students”

We implement different marketing approaches to achieve a long-term goal, but each one of our plans utilizes specific objectives or sub-goals. Our institute's marketing and administration's other strategic decisions include recruiting candidates for admission using social media. We build a positive image of the institute by nurturing community relationships and making effective digital media to deliver targeted messages to students and parents.

In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“We make sure students are abreast to current industry trends”

An inbound student will benefit from an intense academic atmosphere; numerous group activities are related to the engineering curriculum and social contribution, frequent industry-institute activities, tech fests, and hackathons. Along with that, we have excellent placement opportunities, in-house coaching facilities for GATE, PSUs, personality and soft skill development programs, development of sports and extracurricular activities, and social service to the poor and backward segment of the society.

“Our institute is providing students’ scholarships to students. The scheme includes an annual scholarship of Rs. 50,000/- to the students who have secured more than 120% combined in HSC and Intermediate. In this way, the college is providing a total of Rs. 2,00,000/- as scholarship to the meritorious students of the state.”

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for your institute specifically?

“We are working hard to compensate the hindrances created by pandemic”

The biggest challenges for higher education are the adverse effects of the pandemic. There is a shortage of placement opportunities for graduating students. Besides, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has also influenced a lot of the social, financial, and educational status of the individual families to opt for this education model. Not surprisingly, our institute has also been directly or indirectly affected by the challenges above of the present time. However, we are looking beyond the same and working hard to come back to the path of development and progress.
