Mr. Narinder Singh Jassal is presently working as the Principal of Indo-Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) & Principal Scientist in CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIR-CSIO), Chandigarh. He previously served as a HOD (Mechanical) to manage all training activities of the Mechanical department including undertaking the coordination of the training and placement activities. He has received several prestigious awards for his contribution in the field of research and academics. He is also the Coordinator of PRISM Scheme of DSIR, Govt. of India to promote innovations in budding innovators.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Academics helps me in upgrading my skills and learning about latest trends in technology”

Teaching, Research & Development, and Skill development are the areas of interest for me. Being a scientist, trying to provide skilled manpower to the nation and also boosting students for innovation and entrepreneurship is my essential moral duty. 


What are your thoughts regarding leadership & its balanced execution?

“To be a propelling force for my students & teams, towards skill development”

I always believe in action with a positive mind-set and providing a healthy working environment to my team. As a leader, I always build relationships and motivate students & faculty equally.

How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of industry?

“Staying abreast with the latest in-demand skills & training the students with same”

We are constantly in touch with the industry and its requirements. 

  • Our placement cell regularly upgrades its operations to introduce the latest skills into the students training modules.
  • We also have a Curriculum Review Cell in which industry members give their valuable feedback to upgrade the curriculum.

Apart from imparting structural & academic enhancing programs, our priority is to make ISTC a world-class institute in skill development with more success stories of entrepreneurs’. 


What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in the current age?

“Issues like lack of dedication & financial aid needs to be addressed by the policy makers”

One of the biggest challenges in our country for higher education is financial constraint. The increased fee structure often demotivates students & their parents, to opt for higher studies. The other reason being lack of motivation, which mars the initiative taking quality of individuals to carry on with higher education.

How do you establish a healthy environment in your institute?

“Organizing & motivating all my pupils to take part in collaborative creative events”

We have various clubs and many initiation programs to let the students feel at home. The team leaders, our staff members, tactfully use various occasions to break the ice between the varied backgrounds of students, teachers, and everyone else involved with ISTC.
