Dr. Sarojananda Mishra is presently working as HOD, Computer Science Engineering & Applications at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology – [IGIT], Dhenkanal. With more than 28 years of teaching experience, he has published and presented a large number of research papers in national and international journals and conferences. Also, he has written one international book on L-System Fractals under Elsevier Publications(Poland,2007), and two books on Programming in C and Data Structure, and one book on Computer Fundamentals as well.

Any insights about the latest program that you are offering in the institute?

“Advance computer courses for new technological world”

The latest course that is being offered is Data Science and Research Methods in Computer Sciences. Both of these programmes are unique, these are new subjects involving new faculty and new students, even though it is an elective subject more than 100 students have shown active participation. Data Science includes advanced computer languages like Python that enable students to bring in innovative ideas that might attract the recruiters of the organisation. These kinds of courses are potentially progressing in the field of computer sciences bringing in digital transformations. 

What would you say are the best practices in the course you’re offering?

“Training and practical sessions to learn new things”

We had several plans for this new course like conducting seminars and alumni meets on specific topics so that the students have an idea regarding their future aspects in the field. During these pandemic times, we have arranged virtual meets, webinars, and video presentations for students to gain maximum benefit. Also, the teaching style of our faculty is very lively and interactive along with hands-on practice representation. We offer training and internship to our students as well. 

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

“Strategic learning and modern pedagogy”

Python training programmes are a very hot topic and this field is very much required in the market today. Machine learning and understanding statistical methods, and strong grip on python brings attention at the marketplace in this digital era. With the advancing digital world, there is a need for data scientists, and to fulfil this demand we are preparing students with utmost skills and knowledge offering the latest pedagogy and services.

How did you train your faculty to deliver this program to the students?

“Knowledge improvement opportunities and guidance”

I myself continuously keep on updating my knowledge and education regarding the subject. We offer our faculty opportunities to undergo developmental programs and follow new strategies in the field. We encourage them to go through several reading materials, research paper studies and reviews, and also use the new modern technology of study by completing several online courses from different platforms to keep themselves up-to-date. 

What are the challenges you face while inculcating this program?

“Infrastructural set up and student readiness for the program”

Making students ready to opt for such programs and gearing up their interests throughout are some common challenges we have faced. Students are more creative and innovative these days, hence they must be encouraged to take up courses like these to learn the digital transformations and invent new ventures. Also, installation of quality infrastructure and lab designs relevant to the course is a challenge for the moment. However, we are already in the way to get the set-up done as early as possible.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Be mindful about your choices and clear with your undertakings”

The students have to be very particular about their choices and decisions, especially in their professional life. As competition is growing at a very fast pace, one must make sure to have a clear mindset and vision to approach. Their objectives and methods must be crystal clear, bonded with a lot of effort and hard work.
