Dr. A. G. Mathew is the Principal of Caarmel Engineering College, Kerala. He has 19 years of experience in Teaching, Research, Industry, and Administration. Joined Believers Church Caarmel Engineering College in 2017.  His area of expertise includes Academics, Industrial, curriculum development, academic administration, research, laboratories, external funded projects, and scientific publications. His research interests are reliability modeling & analysis of industrial systems, Industrial plant maintenance & management.

A rewarding experience in the education industry

The education industry has always been very fulfilling and rewarding, for the opportunities it offers to the teaching fraternity. This has been my experience and hence the industry of choice to work in.

The philosophy of a leader is to be approachable and attentive to every student and staff of the college, facilitate the fulfillment of their academic needs and aspirations to maintain academic quality in the institution. My style is exactly identical as I mentioned. 

Challenges of being the Principal of Caarmel Engineering College

The significant challenge faced is in maintaining student discipline, satisfaction index and above all, the academic results for the college. 

The curriculum of Caarmel Engineering College

The curriculum is as prescribed by the university, which is in tune with the industry requirements, with a higher emphasis on skill enhancement. 

The growth of students through placement opportunities available at Caarmel Engineering College

Nowadays, there are a lot of direct and indirect placement methods. Students often opt for placement fairs and cluster drives across the state and also at direct placement opportunities that the college has to offer.  

Being available for the students

As the principal of this college, I stay on campus from MON to FRI and I interact with almost every student on campus personally, either during or after the office hours. This is how I make myself available to them. 

Views on an ideal school environment

The ideal school environment should be fully residential with round the clock fully equipped canteen facilities and at least 35% of the staff staying on campus with remedial tutorial classes for 2 hours every evening. 

Top qualities that an aspiring engineer must possess

The top qualities that an aspiring engineer should possess are to be a self-learner and to possess a group study attitude. 

Future goals for the college

The goals on my mind for the institution are accreditation by NAAC and NBA and foreign university programs offering on this campus. 

Suggestions for aspiring students

The best suggestion is to be skill equipped as that is what the employers are looking for. Try thinking something that can create value not only for yourself but also for others, i.e. the society.
