Mr. Tapas Satpathi is the Director of Budge Budge Institute of Technology, Kolkata. He has a total of 38 years of experience, 19 Years in Industry, and 19 years in Academics. He has served as an Associate professor and later on went to become dean of a prestigious organization. He believes in personal interactions with his students, to help understand their academic needs better. Under his guidance, the institute has flourished immensely.

What are your thoughts on leadership & its unbiased execution?

“I believe in teamwork & guiding everyone to be on the same page in terms of decision making”

I am always driven by the thought that everyone must feel content at their workplace. Hene, I try to connect with every colleague & student to understand their motivations, to become a better leader. And with this philosophy, I can say that I have molded even the toughest individuals into an asset of the organization. 

How do you curate plans for the marketing of your school?

“Our dedicated in-house team of digital marketers has contributed majorly in this regard”

In recent times, the mode of communication has changed drastically. Earlier only newspapers were the mode of marketing. But now people use digital media more than the conventional offline mode. Therefore we decided to form an in-house team that understands the importance of having an online presence in the modern world.

What are the steps taken by your University to provide education during the COVID-19 situation?

“An influx of new, innovative ideas to conduct classes, exams & interactions online”

As a leader, I tried to boost the confidence of all my students and colleagues and asked them to have faith in this modern educational phase. To help our students & their parents, we deducted the tuition fee. Also, we are the only college that arranged an online examination of 1400 students. We ensured that the session would not be delayed because of this pandemic.

What do you see as your University’s greatest strengths?

“Providing best facilities in terms of academics, placements, & training”

Our biggest strength is our infrastructure and our learned set of faculty. Most of our faculty members are from IIT or JNU. In addition to this, our placement record is also very good. We try to always top the industry by getting involved with every student right from the first year. 

What are the biggest challenges you see for higher education in the current age?

“Students tend to suffer in the job industry due to ancient curriculum & less skilled knowledge”

 The modern industry requires skilled professionals & not bookworms, therefore I always focus on industry-ready programs. I strongly feel that our education system is outdated and it needs to be changed or modified. And this change is not only required at the higher level but the school level also.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Work on your weak points & make an effort to turn it into strength”

Young kids should always know their strengths and weaknesses. And never get demotivated by the shortcomings. Don’t run away from hard work because there is no substitute for it.
