Dr. P. Suresh is the Principal of Bengal School of Technology, Sugandha Hooghly. With an M.Pharm, Ph.D., and LL.B., he is a Fellow of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association, a fellow of the Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association, and many more. He has nearly 25 years of administrative experience as Principal/Dean in various Institutions/Deemed to be universities/Autonomous Institutions in India. He has more than 100 research publications and has guided 6 Ph.D. He was the former National President of The Indian Hospital Pharmacists Association, New Delhi, and has chaired several conferences. He is the recipient of the prestigious Prof.M.L.Schroff Memorial National award of IHPA in December 2018 at New Delhi and several other awards at the national, regional, and state level.

Apart from the curriculum provided by the Pharmacy Council of India, we have our add-on programs, value-added approaches, and special CEO lectures from various pharma industries. This helps to bridge the gap between the pharma industry and the teaching practices. Since we have got the NAAC and NBA accreditation, this itself indicates that the best practices adopted in this institution are in line with the national requirements.
What do you think should be the Institution's top priority over the next 10 years?

The Vision document of Bengal School of Technology – A College of Pharmacy Sugandha West Bengal with emphasis on setting targets and preparing a road map to achieve the set objectives of Short term Goals, Intermediate Goals and the Long term Goals including the core component of strengthening the avenues for more placement opportunities and better research facilities with a focus on teaching pedagogy, excellent placements, MoUs and such other activities, and promote the causes for laying emphasis on GPAT,GRE, TOFEL, for the advanced learners towards higher studies in India and abroad.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
“Never stop learning in your life and always focus on concept-based learning”
A piece of advice to the youth and the current students is that “A commitment to the practice and profession of Pharmacy with all ethical values in its highest form is a lifelong commitment to humanity by the pharmacy professionals.
There should be a value-added concept of learning with emphasis on experiential learning to develop the skill in the all core areas of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical care, Hospital, Community and Clinical Pharmacy and all other allied areas of health care.
How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your Institute?
“A successful Mentor-Mentee–Monitoring Mechanism helps us to motivate our students in their academic journey”
Students are our top priority. We have a mentor-mentee monitoring mechanism, wherein a mentor (faculty member) will be taking care of a small group of students (around 15-20). The mentors are always available as a counselor, guide, teacher, guardian to guide our students in all possible manners. They are supported academically and in other activities as well. So this is a unique concept which we follow strictly and we abide by the rules and regulations of this institution.
How has the COVID situation affected the field of Pharmacy?
“The field of Pharmacy was unhindered and our people worked tirelessly for the greater good of the society”
Pharmaceutical technocrats and all Pharmacy professionals have proved to be one of the front-line healthcare workers in these difficult times of covid 19 pandemic.
It may not be out of place to mention here that during this covid situation India has supplied medicines to around 150 countries across the globe which speaks volumes of the commitment and care provided by the Pharma sector making India the Pharmacy of the World. This further proved that India is second to none in the pharma sector. Hence, there is no effect of the covid situation in the manufacturing and dispensing of drugs.

How did your institution carry out their courses virtually during Covid for all students?
“Utilization of online platforms to conduct comprehensive webinars and educative sessions”
Concerning the virtual model of transferring information, we have a unique method adopted recently. We identify speakers from reputed Institutions in India and abroad including world 2% Scientists and conduct zoom meetings, webinars on current topics of national and international interest. This program is done on a free of cost basis. This shows the institution's commitment to providing education, not only to our own students but also to the outsiders.
