What are the types of projects that the students work on while studying in your Institute?
“Our projects help students to attain experiential learning”
Being an exclusive Biotechnology institute, the research concentrates on two major streams. One of them is Environmental Biotechnology, which focuses on vermifiltration technology and wastewater treatment strategy. Another research group focuses on Medical Biotechnology, emphasizing the emerging resistance of microbes causing infectious diseases towards existing drugs. Direct association with Dr. B. Lal Clinical Laboratory is an added advantage for procuring clinical wastewater and clinical isolates required for this research.
“The focused approach towards biotechnology, association with clinical laboratory and pharmacy, well-qualified staff with expertise in diverse fields are the college’s greatest strengths.”
What are the benefits and career options after pursuing courses from your Institute?
“Biotechnology holds a bright future ahead”
After graduation and post-graduation in Biotechnology/Microbiology, the prospects can be segregated into three sectors: academics, research-oriented, and industry-oriented. Academics include teaching with or without research in colleges and coaching institutes, thereby further disseminating knowledge. Research is an essential component of human survival and benefits in the 21st century. This research can include health-based or environmental based, the major research areas at Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology. In addition to these two, the third is the industrial jobs, which includes manufacturing, quality control, quality management, R&D sectors of all essential industries such as food, pharmaceutical, clinical, etc.
How does the curriculum of your Institute ensure the best practice of the industry?
“We bring industry relevant approach in our curriculum”
All the subjects included in the curriculum are coupled with the relevant practicals, thereby ensuring students' exposure. Apart from this, a one-month training in the second year and three months dissertation in the third year for UG students and six months dissertation for PG students ensures their hands-on training and guidance much needed for industrial exposure. Besides that, industrial visits to related industries are also an essential part of the curriculum.
How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your college?
“We organise various activities to uplift and establish a healthy environment”
To maintain a healthy relation and environment in the college, various inter and intra-collegiate activities are conducted, such as Milaan (Fresher’s), Waves (intra collegiate), Biochrome (inter-collegiate), Drishyam (street theatre), and Milaap (Alumni meet). While participating in these activities, students get to know each other and develop friendly relations.
