The Ministry of Education’s innovation cell has released the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021 today, on December 29, where IIT Madras was ranked as the most innovative educational institute for the third consecutive year.

ARIIA 2021 classifies participating institutions into two major categories; technical and non-technical and amongst all the institutes of national importance in the technical category, Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras, has managed to retain its number one rank as the most innovative educational institute in the country for the third time.

IIT Madras has secured the first rank for the third time in a row, while IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi stood at the second and third ranks as the most innovative educational institutes in India.

The Union Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Subhas Sarkar announced the rankings virtually and urged the higher educational institutions to instill the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

Further, the institutions should also rigorously prepare the faculty members as innovators, creative problem solvers, out-of-the-box thinkers, entrepreneurs & job creators, Sarkar added.

This year, a total of 1,438 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) (including all IITs, NITs, and IISc, among others) participated in the third edition of ARIIA Rankings as compared to 674 HEIs which took part in 2020.

Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021 has a special framework for non-technical institutions, that will help strengthen the Indian education institutions' innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
