The 40 central universities in India have been ranked by the Ministry of Education in its annual report. The rankings were made public on 13 August. Allahabad University has been ranked last among the four central universities in Uttar Pradesh, and 38th overall.

Third-placed Jawaharlal Nehru University had a score of 82%, while Aligarh Muslim University had a score of 78%.
The ranking of the central universities is released by the ministry every year. In Uttar Pradesh, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Lucknow ranked first, Aligarh Muslim University second, Banaras Hindu University third, while Allahabad University stood fourth.
The university scored 94.5 out of 283.5, securing 33% marks. However, it is compulsory to get a minimum of 59.975% marks. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade have also been adjusted in the performance assessment.
Allahabad University did not feature among the NIRF rankings and only a NAAC grade of ‘B’ has been recorded.
“AU holds a B++ grade from NAAC. Due to only a B being recorded in the assessment, AU has got very few marks. A letter has been sent to the Ministry for this. From there the revised location will be improved by the release of revised report,” said the registrar of AU.
“Apart from this, efforts are being made to improve the performance of AU,” he added.
