AMU Centenary Celebration 2020: PM Modi to Pay First Ever Visit to Varsity; Details Here


In a first, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will be attending the Centenary Celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University scheduled to be held on December 22. This is the first time that PM Modi will be attending the university’s event. 

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is all set to organize its centenary celebration on December 22. The chief guest of the function will be PM Modi. Historically, this will be the first-ever Prime Minister’s visit to the university after 1964. Earlier, it was only Lal Bahadur Shastri who attended AMU’s events as a sitting Prime Minister. 

PM Modi will join the online function hosted by AMU through a video link. He will be joined by dignitaries like Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

AMU VC Professor Tariq Mansoor extended his gratitude toward PM Modi and said that AMU was thankful for his acceptance of their invitation to participate in the event. He said, “The outreach of the university during this historical year will also immensely help in its growth and development, and in the placement of our students in private and public sectors.”

He added, “Centenary is a great landmark achievement in the history of any university. AMU and its various units, as well as Alumni Associations, have been organising various programmes attended by illustrious people from diverse fields through the virtual mode following the Government of India's guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.”

AMU Centenary Celebration 2020: Event Highlights

AMU’s Centenary Celebrations are usually grand events that celebrate the rich heritage of the university. The event will start from today, December 17, 2020, the iconic campus beginning from Administrative Block to the Centenary gate will be decorated and illuminated in the evening to commemorate the rich history of past 100 years backing the university.

He also urged the community to put in extra effort to ensure that the upcoming event will be a success. He also asked for active participation from students, alumni, staff members as well as AMU well-wishers. He concluded by appealing to everyone to keep politics out of this event like on Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti. 

The sources at AMU stated that the Institute had previously announced President Ram Nath Kovind to be the chief guest of the ceremony. However, the decision was changed at the last minute.
