New Delhi: The Rhodes Scholars-Elect for India 2023 has chosen five Indian students from Delhi University (DU) as final scholars. Following a competitive examination and one round of preliminary interviews, three out of five candidates were chosen for the scholarship.
As per the officials, the selected candidates from Delhi University will now travel to Oxford University to join a group of more than 100 scholars who are studying for fully funded post-graduate degrees there in October 2023.
The Rhodes Scholarship, which has been headquartered at the University of Oxford since 1903, is the oldest graduate scholarship in the world. A Rhodes Scholarship is open to applicants from all across the world. Here is an overview of the five chosen students:
Hansa Mukherjee: At the University of Delhi's Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Hansa is a final-year economics student. For the purpose of enhancing women's healthcare outcomes, she is interested in exploring social and behavioural treatments.
Syed Muhammed Khalid: Khalid is a final-year English student at the University of Delhi's St Stephen's College. He enjoys reading and learning about the movements and tales of individuals. To better understand the diversity within the community and how members react to pressures on their identity, he aims to study Indian Muslims in South Asia.
Vedanta Thapar: Vedanta is a physics student in her final year at St. Stephen's College in Delhi. He intends to study mathematical modelling and scientific computing at Oxford with an emphasis on climate dynamics and the difficulties in implementing related policies.
Daksh Walia: At Ashoka University, Daksh is a final-year master's student studying economics. He is particularly interested in researching the factors that influence women's labour force participation in India and comprehending the economics of climate change.
Dr Kirtana Sivasubramanian: Kirtana received her MBBS degree from the Government Medical College at Chennai's Omandurar Government Estate. She is looking forward to learning more about the fundamentals of T-cell biology at Oxford and seeing how they might improve immunotherapy for autoimmune and cancer disorders.
