International Islamic University is a private University in Malaysia with its campus in the cities of – Gombak, Kuantan, and Pagoh. As one of the top universities in Malaysia, IIUM offers more than 200 courses across varied fields of study. The university accepts admissions almost throughout the year in three intake sessions. Currently students planning to seek admission can apply for the third semester commencing in August. Each Year around 800 overseas students enrol at International Islamic College. In 2020, the acceptance rate was around 30-35%.

Admissions to International Islamic University is provided on the basis of merit and English language proficiency. However, entrance exams and interviews may be conducted for admission to a few selected courses such as Engineering and Medical. International Islamic University Admission Deadlines

International Islamic University (IIUM) accepts admissions in three sessions throughout the year. It should be noted that application deadlines to study in Malaysia are different for international students and Malaysian students. The details of deadlines are given in the table below.

International Islamic University Admissions for Overseas Students

An international student seeking admission into the IIUM should meet the General Requirements as well as the additional requirement for a particular course. General requirements at IIUM have been given below. Students must meet any of the following -

  • At least three principal passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Examination, conducted by the UK Educational System, obtained in one attempt.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of six subjects obtained in one attempt.
  • Any other equivalent qualification in the required field as recognized by the Senate of the IIUM University.
  • Mathematics as a prerequisite subject for all undergraduate courses except Bachelor of Arabic, Arts, Medicine or Pharmacy.
  • The candidate may have to undergo an interview or entrance test as per the course applied for
  • In case of bachelor of Medicine and Pharmacy, three principal passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level An Examination, must include – Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics
  • In case of Bachelor of Engineering, three principal passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level an Examination, must include –Physics and Mathematics.

International Students are also required to meet English language proficiency requirements and submit scores of other exams to study in Malaysia.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

IIUM accepts scores of general English proficiency tests such as – TOEFL and IELTS as proof of ELP. In case a student is unable to appear for these examinations, he would have to appear for English Placement Test (EPT), conducted by the IIUM, as a part of the application process.

However candidates who wish to take their subjects in Arabic Language are required to undertake an Arabic English Placement Test (EPT), conducted by the IIUM, as a part of the application process.

Malaysian Student Visa Requirements 

IIUM students are required to obtain either a full-term Student Visa (For the entire duration of Courses) or a Single Year Student Visa (Renewable each year). The type of Visa granted would depend upon the course elected by the applicant. The entire process of the Visa application cost around 1500 MYR – 3500 MYR, depending upon the duration, people traveling with, health cover, and other details.

Malaysian Student Visa application process is as follows -

  • Visit the Malaysian Student Visa Website and apply for Student Visa.
  • Read the list of the document required and keep them ready in soft copies
  • Undergo the tests mentioned in the Pre-Health Screening process.
  • Obtain a Health Cover from any Malaysian Institute online.
  • Fill the Student Visa application and attach the required documents.
  • After checking the authenticity of the Claim, the Malaysian Government will release a Student Visa to the student.

International Islamic University Postgraduate Admissions

IIUM Provides Masters, D. Phil, PhD and Postgraduate Diplomas in various study areas which includes Advanced Nursing Practice, Arabic Studies, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Halal Industry Management, Islamic Banking and Finance, Pharmaceutical Science, Psychology, Islamic Jurisprudence. The basic requirements for admission to Postgraduate courses are as follows -

  • The student must have completed graduation in the related field from any recognized university for Masters
  • The student must have completed post-graduation in a related field from any recognized university for PhD/Doctorate

The overall application process at the International Institute of Malaysia takes around two months approximately after figuring in the time taken for processing Visa Application. Students in the meantime can track their application status through the online student portal at IIUM. Upon Selection, the student is required to bring the original transcripts, original passport, the Pre- Screening test Results and original offer Letter while traveling to Malaysia.

Upon reaching Malaysia he would be subjected to a Post-Screening Medical test to check for any contagious infection. Before the induction and orientation at IIUM, the institute would also screen the applicant through Medical tests as a part of the OCVID-19 containment protocol.

At induction, the original transcripts of the candidate would be verified for authenticity. Any student failing to show to the allotted orientation date and the consecutive orientation date would be disqualified from admission and have to start afresh by submitting another application.
