A High Level In-service Training Institute for Poultry was established during 1972 with an objective of imparting advanced and specialized training courses in different disciplines of Poultry Production, developing and standardization of poultry products, assess and monitor the quality of poultry and other livestock feeds etc., During 1975, this name was changed to Central Training Institute for Poultry Production and Management and further renamed as Central Poultry Training Institute during July, 1986 Government of India established the Central Duck Breeding Farm, during 1981 with the technical collaboration of Govt. of United Kingdom for production and supply of layer and meat type of ducks across the country. During 1995 a scientific Turkey Farm with the stocks of Broad Breasted Large White (pure line) and Broad Breasted Large Bronze ( pure line ) was newly established converting the facilities of erstwhile RSPPTC. Further, during 2007 a pilot project on Emu production was also established. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Turkey and Emu units seized to function from Oct. 2012.
