The master's program in international economics concentrates on the acquisition of specialized knowledge of international markets and the global interconnections of national economies. High value is set on research-based teaching and demanding proficiency in analytical methods. Master's students have the opportunity of studying one semester at one of our partner universities for example in Europe, Russia, the U.S., Latin America, Africa, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, or China. Additional language courses can be chosen as electives to prepare students for this study-abroad program.
The master's degree program in international economics provides students with greater in-depth subject-related and methodological knowledge to enable them to analyze the increasingly international cooperation of economies and thus reproduce and evaluate its impacts on domestic or foreign economic measurands. This focus means a comprehensive, thematically matched series of courses in the field of international economic relations within the master's degree program.
Whether concerned with micro and macro issues in development economics, multinational companies and organizations, international trade, or experimental economic research, the large range of modules offered creates a solid methodological and factual basis to enable candidates to soundly analyze the current opportunities and risks of globalization. Equipped with several professorships and an interdisciplinary research center, the University of Göttingen, moreover, offers the largest area of focus on the areas of economic development research.

The semester fees comprise administration fees, student body fees, and a Student union fee. The summer semester fee totals $476.54 for 2021. While the Winter semester fee totals $470.43 for 2021. So the yearly fee for attending this program is $946.97.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A minimum of six semesters of study culminating in a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent course of study with a minimum of 180 ECTS credits in the subject of economics or a closely related subject.
- Applicants must have completed at least 150 of the 180 ECTS credits at the time of application. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applications that do not meet this requirement.
- Completed 60 ECTS credits and course work in Economics including 30 ECTS credits in Economic Theory, Public Economics, and International Trade.
- As part of fulfilling the minimum of 30 ECTS course requirements in Economic Theory, Public Economics, and International Trade:
- A minimum of 18 ECTS from the modules must be from coursework that is of intermediate or advanced levels
- A minimum of 12 ECTS credits must be completed in Mathematics, Statistics, or Econometrics.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Verification of sufficient German language knowledge, if your native language is not German. Accepted forms of language verification:
- Successfully completed German language Bachelor’s degree
- School leaving certificate from a German-speaking school that corresponds to a German higher education entrance qualification
- DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) – with an overall grade of at least DSH-2
- TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) with at least TDN 4 on all tests
- Examination part "German" of the assessment test at a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) – with a passing grade
- DSD II (Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz) – Level II
- Proficiency certification from the Goethe Institute – Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom C 2
- telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule
- Verification of sufficient English language knowledge.
The minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
