The main objective of PhD-Program “Agricultural Economics” (J-PPAE) is to generate cutting-edge research and train young agricultural economists who are equipped to address crucial issues related to the further development of agricultural trade relations, in particular in the relations between Chile and the EU.
Further objectives of the program are:
- The application of economic theory to problems of international agribusiness, international trade, market and policy analysis, farm management, marketing, and rural development
- Carrying out relevant applied agricultural economic research in cooperation with leading research institutes and key agricultural stakeholders in Latinamerica and Europe
- Providing training in cutting-edge methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis Imparting the skills required to publish results in international journals
- Training participants in gaining the skills required to publish results in international journals, in communication with policymakers and other stakeholders, and develop solutions and strategies to combat hunger, poverty, and resource depletion
- Carry out relevant applied agricultural economic research in cooperation with leading research institutes and key agricultural stakeholders in Chile and Germany

The semester fees comprise administration fees, student body fees, and a Student union fee. The summer semester fee totals $476.54 for 2021. While the Winter semester fee totals $470.43 for 2021. So the yearly fee for attending this program is $946.97.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A consecutive Master- or Diploma degree (eq. 300 ECTS incl. BSc) in agriculture or relevant field of study with a grade better than 2.9 German- or 5.1 Chilean Grade.
- Excellent English proficiency
- A PhD research proposal
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Applicants whose first language is not English have to prove a good working knowledge of English. Their proficiency in English must be certified in an internationally recognized test.
- The language test certificate should be no more than two years old at the time of application.
- Exempted from the requirement to provide proof of language proficiency are students whose first language is English and students with at least two-year study or work experience in an English-speaking country within the last three years.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
