Master of Science [M.S] (Automotive Engineering and Management)
Field of Study:
The three-semester master's degree in “Automotive Engineering & Management” is offered by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen, which has a high reputation in the automotive sector.
The master’s degree offers a combination of economic and technical content specializing in the automotive sector.
Addressees are lateral thinkers and forward thinkers who want to face the management challenges of the often technology-driven automotive companies. The aim is to train creative generalists who can also manage the transition to electromobility, for example.
Graduates of the course should be qualified for all technical and economic fields of work, e.g.
- for managerial functions in the cross-sectional areas of planning and controlling or
- for managerial functions in operational functional areas, e.g. in technical purchasing, in development planning, in planning the commercialization of new products and technologies (e.g. electric vehicles), in logistics planning, in production planning, and in technical marketing.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $506.82, of which $367.88 for the VRR semester ticket and $138.94 for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $229.96
- Student body fee: $38.08.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- the bachelor's degree in industrial engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen or
- an equivalent or comparable course in industrial engineering.
- The overall grade of the degree must generally be at least 2.5 or better.
- The examination board determines the equivalence. As a rule, they are regarded as equivalent:
- a relevant course of at least three and a half years with a first professional qualification and a total workload of at least 210 credits in the field of industrial engineering at another university within the scope of the higher education framework law. or
- A relevant degree from another university outside the scope of the Framework Act for Higher Education, unless a significant difference in quality to a degree from a university within the scope of the Framework Act can be proven.
- a bachelor's degree in engineering or business administration at the University of Duisburg-Essen or at another university within the scope of the higher education framework law, subject to conditions.
- If the qualification (including a specialist internship) is not given, in particular, if a first professional qualification with fewer than 210 credits is available, the examination board can combine admission with the condition that certain competencies are proven by the time the master's thesis is registered. The type and scope of these requirements are individually determined by the examination board on the basis of the course content completed as part of the previous degree. The scope of the requirements is up to 30 ECTS credits.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Applicants who did not acquire their qualification at a German-speaking institution must prove sufficient German language skills in accordance with the regulations for the German language test for university admission for foreign applicants (DSH) before starting their studies.
- Applicants must have sufficient language skills to be able to follow events in English.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
