Master of Arts [M.A] (Social Science)
Tuition Fees
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) does not charge tuition fees. The students must only pay a semester contribution fee of about $401 per semester. This fee includes free use of public transport in North-Rhine Westphalia, and reduced prices for food and beverages in the cafeteria (Mensa) and canteens.
The Faculty of Social Science at the Ruhr University Bochum pursues a modern, interdisciplinary approach to social science. The central feature of the faculty is the connection between the social science disciplines from the fields of political science, sociology, and social psychology and social anthropology, social policy and social economics as well as social science methodology and statistics.
This course is unique because, in addition to the social science specialization of the bachelor’s degree, there is a job-related focus on research and practice.
This course offers a specialization in the following areas:
- Globalization, Transnationalization, and Governance
- Urban and regional development
- Health Systems and Health Economics
- Management and regulation of work, economy, and organization
- Culture and person
- Methods of social research
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- The M.A. Social science takes four semesters and builds on the B.A. degree. Students must have previously studied a social science subject and have been completed. From the B.A. degree, social science achievements are expected to the following extent:
- Basic modules totaling at least 40 credit points in at least three of the following social science disciplines: - Social policy and social economics - sociology - political science - Social psychology and social anthropology.
- Basic modules in the field of methods and statistics totaling at least 10 credit points. If these course achievements are not available, students can these up to a value of 18 credit points (or 27 credit points if follow-up studies in the field of methodology and statistics are necessary).
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Most of the courses at the RUB are held in German. Students must therefore have sufficient knowledge of German and provide evidence by obtaining one of the following language certificates:
- TestDaF with at least 16 points within an examination
- DSH (level 2 or 3)
- German Language Diploma - DSD - II
- ZOP or Goethe Certificate C2 from the Goethe Institute
- KDS or GDS from the Goethe Institute
- ÖSD language diploma C1
- telc German C1 Hochschule
- Assessment test (examination part German)
