Master of Arts [M.A] (European Culture and Economy)
Field of Study:
This degree program is unique because together with international students in a small group of a maximum of 35 students per year, students learn to understand and examine the complexity of Europe in an interdisciplinary manner.
This course offers a specialization in the following areas:
- Europeanization, governance, institutions, and policy areas of the EU
- International institutions and processes of globalization
- Internationalization and transnationalization
- Societies, cultures, work, and participation in Europe
- European history and economic history
- International micro and macro economics
- The energy industry and law
- Applied ethics and political philosophy
- Cultural studies (media, literature, language)

Tuition Fees
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) does not charge tuition fees. The students must only pay a semester contribution fee of about $401 per semester. This fee includes free use of public transport in North-Rhine Westphalia, and reduced prices for food and beverages in the cafeteria (Mensa) and canteens.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Completion of at least a six-semester Bachelor's degree (at least 180 credit points) in a cultural, social, humanities or economics subject at a scientific university (university, technical college) in Germany
- or a degree (BA or comparable) in a cultural, social, humanities or economics subject outside of Germany (in this case the equivalence of your studies will be checked by the examination board of the ECUE course as part of your application)
- Language skills in German and English
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- International applicants must have passed the German Language Examination for University Admission (DSH) to be admitted to the MA program in European Culture and Economy. In any case, the DSH examination must have been successfully passed by the beginning of the course at the latest.
- As an alternative to the DSH, TestDaF can also be recognized (with at least 4 x TDN 4 in each of the 4 subtests).
- The following exams from the Goethe Institute are also considered equivalent: Goethe Certificate C2, Central Upper Level Examination (ZOP), Small German Language Diploma (KDS) or Large German Language Diploma (GDS).
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program
