University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Design Aptitude Test (UPES DAT) is an annual exam for students seeking admission in various UG and PG courses offered by the School of Design Studies (SoDS) at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES).

UPES DAT 2022 Merit List
Merit List for UPES DAT 2022, both for B.Des/BFA and M.Des courses are released two times.
- One is after the declaration of result, where merit is assigned to every candidate, who has given an exam, based on marks obtained in the exam.
- The second one is the final merit list, which is developed based on consolidated performance both in examination and the subsequent interview and Presentation of the portfolio
- The second merit list is the conclusive merit list, based on which seats are allotted and admissions are done

Counselling for B.Des
- After qualifying in the entrance exam, candidates are called for counselling sessions, for which they can register online from given venues, dates and timings.
- According to the availability, the slot will be assigned to the candidate.
- In counselling, the candidate will have to go through personal interview and presentation of work portfolio.
Portfolio requirements for BDes/BFA candidates:
- Candidates must carry their hand-drawn sketches/rendering that has been prepared by using pencil, pen, color markers or any other instrument like charcoal, natural dyes etc.
- Drawings can belong to any category like an everyday thing, nature, symbolic designs, experimental art, nature etc.
- Candidates with a knack for photography can enhance their chances of selection by carrying photographs and images clicked by them. Candidates can also carry samples if they have undertaken any experimentation on Digital media, implying the use of 2 dimensional or 3-dimensional digital media, tools and techniques for drawing, sketching and rendering
- Candidates can also showcase their talent through Physical Model or Prototype created using Clay, Plastic, Wood, Card Board etc.
- Candidates can bring any such object or thing, which showcases and expresses their creativity skills
- Consideration will be given to certificates of appreciation or participation (associated with art and creativity) possessed by candidates
Counselling for M.Des

Portfolio requirements for M.Des candidates
- Candidates must carry an assortment of drawing, sketching and rendering, which has been done by them, through the use of various sorts of techniques and media, inclusive of color markers and color pencils. Every candidate’s compilation should preferably contain a minimum of 10-15 pages
- Candidates can carry any physical model or prototype made by using fabrication or construction work
- Candidate can also carry any form of digital work (software), which means using 2 dimensional or 3-dimensional digital media, tools and techniques for drawing, sketching and rendering.
