TNEA 2023 is held for admission of 10+2 candidates into the engineering courses in the institutes of Tamil Nadu. Candidates who have a sports background can get admission based on their performance in the sport of their choice.
There are around 54 sports defined under the sports quota. Candidates who have played the State/National/International level games can get admissions quickly under the sports quota. Candidates will be divided into 6 categories and each category will have different marks. Those who have played International sports have the upper hand as more marks are given to the candidates. TNEA 2023 Policy for International Tournaments
The scheme defined for International level tournaments for TNEA 2023 is set under two categories given below.
Category 1: The games organized once in 4 years like the Olympics, World Cup / Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
Category 2: The games which have the participation of at least six countries. The sport is recognized by Indian Olympics Association (IOA), Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India.
- Candidate can claim this participation only when he/she will be also played state or national level championship. Direct participation in International sports will not be considered.
- The highest achievement will be considered only in a single tournament. The tournament must be organised regularly by National Olympic Committee (NOC) authorised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) / International Sports Federations affiliated to the IOC will be considered for award of marks. The candidates who have represented the country or will be representing the country will be given marks each year under the quota.
- Candidates who have participated in International events have to produce a VISA/Immigration certificate. The time of the event and the dates on the documents must match. In the case of forgery, the candidature will be terminated.
TNEA 2023 Policy for National Tournaments
The policy of the National level tournaments for TNEA 2023 is as follows:
- The tournament is considered as National level only if it is listed in the list of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) / Indian Olympic Association / SAI / SDAT / respective official National Sports Federation.
- The candidates who have just participated in the trial or coaching camps cannot claim this quota.
- Any event which is not registered with IOA or MYAS will not be considered valid.
TNEA 2023 Policy for State Tournaments
The policy defined for the state level tournaments under TNEA 2023 is as follows:
- The candidate must have played the tournament which is considered as the State level tournament. State Association / SAI / SDAT must approve the tournament.
- The tournament if is invalid for the year then the candidature is not considered. The candidate in such case must appear for the TNEA combined entrance test.
- No marks will be given to the candidate who will be just done some trial of a sports activity. The same applies to the coaching camps.
TNEA 2023 Guidelines for Sports Quota Candidates
All the candidates who wish to seek admission under the sports quota category are required to adhere to the guidelines given by the committee. The guidelines for TNEA 2023 sports quota candidates are:
- All the documents have to be submitted by the sportsperson personally at the office. TNEA Application Form submitted through the speed post, or any other post will not be accepted. Candidate will be to submit the form before the last date defined for an application form.
- TNEA 2023 Application Form will be accepted only for the candidates who are playing the sport in the list defined by the committee. Candidates must have played the games at the National or State level.
- Candidate will be to produce the documents defined below along with the application form. The competent authorities must sign the documents.

- Marks will be considered only for the championships mentioned in the list. No individual championship organised by any private body will be considered.
- Candidates who have cleared all the levels from the beginning will only be considered. The candidates who have the certificate of only the last or final competition will not be considered.
- The top 5 candidates who have played Tennis as a sport internationally will be considered for admission. The names will be picked from the ATP (Association of Tennis Players) list. The necessary documents in support have to be produced.
- Original certificates printed will be considered. The candidates who produce scanned copy will not be considered.
- The ranks will be given according to the marks obtained by the candidate through quota.
- For cricket, the national and state level championships organised by TNCA / BCCI will be considered for the year.
- Candidates who have represented the only state of Tamil Nadu in National games will be given the state sports quota.
- Candidate of KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools) and CBSE schools are eligible for state sports quota. The nativity and schooling must have been completed from Tamil Nadu.
- A managing committee will evaluate a candidate for admission to engineering and medical courses. The candidate who will be scored a minimum of 5 marks in the sports quota will be considered.
- Candidate will be to produce all the forms along with the participation certificates or any other certificate. The certificate must clearly state the name of the candidate.
- The absences of original documents lead to the cancellation of candidature.
- Only selected candidates will be called for TNEA 2023 Counselling.
- Legal action will be taken for the candidates and the parents of the candidates who are trying to cheat the system.
- Candidate is allowed to choose only one of the disciple either medicine or engineering.
