M.Tech. Process Engineering: What is it About?
M.Tech Process Engineering involves a series of steps that are used by the engineering team to guide them through various engineering processes in order to create a specific product. Process engineering involves translating the requirements of the customer into production facilities that convert raw materials into value-added components. In the next step, these components are transported to the next stage of the supply chain, typically known as packaging engineering. However, some larger- volume processes such as petroleum refining processes transfer the products into transportation (trucks or rail) that are then directed to distributors or bulk outlets.
The main objective of this course is to strive for efficient production, utilization and management of different processes including chemicals, petrochemicals, or others. Primary emphasis is given to the identification of appropriate technologies for the efficient production, distribution and use of chemicals and it also focuses on the dynamics of the various process equipment and their control. This specialization course leads to employment in private and public sectors, heavy chemicals and petroleum industries, design and manufacturing units and research institutions.
Students who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in chemical processes and other process engineering methods may apply for this course. The course is suitable in providing adequate understanding to graduates beginning from roles and responsibilities of a Process Design Engineer to development of final steps of process design engineering documents such as Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID). Those interested in learning about the detailed steps involved in the designing and manufacturing of a product, may apply for this course.
Usually in M. Tech courses, students are needed to work on long-term research- oriented projects or to be involved in other activities such as field work, plant visits, and others. There is a huge scope for this field in industries, factories related to pharmaceuticals, food, biotechnology, environmental, health care, to name a few, and the starting salary package is excellent considering the technical post graduate degree.
