Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose BSc HONS Statistics because it is in high demand nowadays in the job market and has high career prospects. There are 3 core subjects in each semester for which 3 professors are there along with additional subjects like GE, VAC, SEC and AEC. The faculty-student ratio is good for my course i.e. 1:20. Some professors are highly qualified as I studied at IIT Kharagpur and some only have a normal qualification. The teaching method also depends on and varies from professor to professor. One professor is very experienced and teaches nicely whereas the other 2 don't teach that better. Exams were duly conducted on their due dates and it's not very difficult to pass the exams. One who has studied averagely well can pass the exams easily.

Campus Life:

Social life is good for a person who has a big friend circle. Fest are conducted in Delhi University though not too regular. Classrooms don't have amenities like many fans are also not working but labs have air conditioners also. There are a lot of societies by taking part in which one can learn a lot. One also learns communication and leadership skills by actively engaging in societies. Sports and extracurricular activities are not too much active and is the area to be focused upon by the University and college. Libraries have a lot of books and journals that can be read and are open to all.

Internships Opportunities:

Ramjas College offers a range of internship opportunities to its students. These internships are designed to provide practical experience and enhance students' skills in their respective fields. The college collaborates with various companies and organizations, both local and national, to facilitate internships for students. Students can explore internships in areas such as finance, marketing, research, and more. The college's career services office actively assists students in finding and applying for these internships, helping them gain valuable real-world experience during their academic journey.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The annual fee of around 16,000 for the B.Sc. Statistics (Hons.) course at Ramjas College, Delhi University, provides an affordable educational opportunity. To explore scholarship options and financial assistance, I recommend contacting the college's financial aid office or checking their official website for details on scholarships, grants, and campus job opportunities that can help you manage your expenses while pursuing your degree.

Placement Experience:

As far as I know, students in their fifth semester are eligible to participate in the placement drive. During our college's placement season, we had several reputed companies such as Ernst and Young, Redseer Consulting, Tresvista, De Shaw, and Deloitte visiting our campus. The highest package offered was 20 lakhs, while the average package was 10 lakhs. Around 50-60 students were placed. After graduation, I plan on pursuing a Master's degree in Economics.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is Statistics Honors which is the most challenging course at Delhi University. I chose this because I have a natural affinity towards maths also it was my dream course. Our batch has approximately 60 students. Our faculty is greatly studied by renowned IITs and colleges. They solve all our doubts and queries. Talking about the term exams they were a new experience for us different from what we had in our school but we passed them.

Campus Life:

The campus is very happening and there are everywhere students roaming from different colleges..Hindu, Ramjas, SRCC, and Hansraj are all at a close distance so the campus the filled with students mostly. The fest is the main attraction of DU. Although the fest is now happening very little after COVID-19 it's getting normal now. The fests are conducted usually in March and April and many big celebrities are called and it's huge and fun. The campus is very motivating as everyone is preparing for some or other exams such as cat and upsc. There are libraries in every college and the books for every competitive exam and course is present but one issue with the library is that the library is not open all the time. The classroom has basic amenities like a blackboard, benches, fan. Not all the classrooms have projectors but they are working on it. For extracurriculars, the colleges have various societies like dance, singing, debating, drama, and sports teams in which you can join.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very much of maths background and it requires good calculation and data knowledge. The course has basic Statistics like mean, median, and probability with advanced mathematics. I chose this course as I wanted to make a career in data science and data analytics. The faculty is great and has very qualified teachers with good knowledge of statistics. There are 7-8 professors in our department which is sufficient for learning. The professors are highly qualified with prior knowledge in Maths and statistics with Ph.D. and their teaching method is very approaching and interesting as they also interact and also give real-life examples for better understanding. The exams are held after a chapter or unit is done and a class test is done in every few weeks which is added to your result. Therefore, if you are good at maths and statistics you can go for this course.

Ques. What is the future of B.Math and B.Stat students in ISI, Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Praniti Das on 28 Sept 21

Ans. ISI Kolkata does not provide a B.Math program. The majority of B.Stat students return for M.Stat while some people join CMI, TIFR, IIM, and other such organizations.  M.Stat employees earn an average of 16–17 LPA, and many of them attend prestigious US graduate institutions. There are no fees for the entire program, and a stipend is provided. So, if you're looking for a career here, your future is bright.Read more

Ques. What are some reasons to not choose B.Stat at ISI Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Soutrik Banerjee on 22 Aug 22

Ans. Life at ISI Kolkata isn’t similar to that of other typical colleges, where you can bunk classes, mug up concepts right before the examination, and score passing grades. It maintains a high standard of academics. The curriculum and course work is extremely grueling. Many students find it difficult to even score passing marks in some courses. ISI doesn’t give any option to retake a course. Many students take admission at ISI for the free-of-cost world-class education, it offers. This is not a good motivation for choosing the institute. Choose ISI Kolkata B.Stat, only if you are interested in the course. Read more

Ques. What are my chances of getting admission in ISI Kolkata in B.Stats if I dont have pretty good marks in 12th (mathematics) but I clear its entrance and subjective paper? Is there any chance?

● Top Answer By Geetika Goel on 13 Sept 21

Ans. ISI Kolkata is considered to be a good institute for B.Stats. It accepts admission purely on the basis of the entrance exam and the interview. The minimum eligibility criteria for the entrance is 70% in class 12th boards.  The selection process will be finalized upon your performance in the entrance exam and the interview session. With this score, you will be able to pass through the cutoff but you must have an exemplary performance during the interview session.Read more

Ques. Is it wise to prepare for the ISI Kolkata B.Stat entrance exam instead of IIT?

● Top Answer By Shrayanshi Roy on 15 Sept 21

Ans. Taking a course at IIT is just as difficult and demanding as pursuing a B.Stat course at ISI. They are whatever you choose to do with your life, whether you like mathematics/statistics enough to spend three years learning statistics (and a little math) and statistics solely at ISI, or you believe you are skilled in another subject that has a good course at one of the numerous IITs. It depends totally on where you want to be. Furthermore, even if you prepare for college X, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. As a result, keeping colleges Y and Z in mind as a backup is always a good idea. Only you can decide which option is preferable for you and what you want. Read more

Ques. What should I expect in the interview for a B.Stat at ISI, Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Gagan Singh on 22 Sept 21

Ans. My brother appeared for the interview last year, so I think I can answer your question. The panelists will evaluate your ability to explain new questions. They might even ask you to solve the questions on the board. You must be clear about your choice of ISI Kolkata as you will be asked the reason for the same during the interview. Expect questions on topics such as Calculus, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Probability. Keep your basics clear, know the definitions, and practice solving problems based on the definitions. Just keep practicing, be confident and give your best shot at the interview.Read more

Ques. How good is the B.Stat course at ISI Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Deepika Mitra on 05 May 22

Ans. ISI Kolkata B.Stat can be an ideal fit for you, if you are interested in Mathematics and Statistics.  However, in terms of placements, doing just a B.Stat isn’t enough. Recruiting companies rarely employ students with just a B.Stat degree. If you want good placement packages do an M.Stat from ISI or a foreign university. After completing M.Stat, students usually receive an average CTC of around INR 19 LPA.Read more

Ques. How can I prepare for the B.Stat. at ISI, Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Tina Dey on 21 Sept 21

Ans. There are three sections in the entrance exam and the level of maths is the same as what you studied in your 12th. The exam follows the pattern of most high school mathematics competitions (RMO, INMO, etc). The three sections of the Entrance Exam consist of MCQ, A Subjective Test, and an Interview. The books you must know are: Problem Solving Strategies by Engel Arthur Test of Mathematics at the 10 + 2 level, Indian Statistical Institute, Published by Affiliated East-West Press Pvt. Ltd. Challenge and Thrill of Pre-College Mathematics by B. J. Venkatachala You should complete these all and do previous year’s papers of ISI/CMI RMO, INMO and IMO. For Interview : Once you crack the exam, the interview part won’t be that difficult. Answer the questions confidently and honestly. The entrance exam of ISI is not easy and also there are only a few seats for B.Stat.  You have to prepare well. Do not overthink and do your preparation well. This will help you a lot. Be calm and try to think of cracking the exam and the latter part would be an easy task for you.Read more

Ques. I am currently enrolled in B.Tech at an NIT is it okay for me to do the ISI Kolkata B.Stat program? Consider the fact that I dropped one year after year 12 for NIT.

● Top Answer By Priyam Dey on 13 Sept 21

Ans. The path you want to get into is a very dangerous one and it can totally spoil your career without you being able to do anything for it.  ISI, B.Stat is a very famous course and is known for the entrance paper which is considered very tough by all those appearing in it. The course is tough because the student who is above the cutoff receives a huge financial help from the government covering the major portion of the tuition fee. Apart from this after the entrance exam the candidate can be certain of a well paid job one he/she completes the course and is awarded with the degree. It gets difficult for the selections if there’s a year gap as lower age students are preferred and in your case there's a two year gap so the chances reduce even more. It would be very risky to change your college again and could cost some harm in your career.Read more

Ans. Kolkata is one of India's safest cities. This city attracts visitors from all over India and the world. That's why it's known as the "City of Joy." Bengalis are extremely friendly.  ISI Kolkata is known to have the most sought-after institute in Statistical expertise. It has one of the best faculty members in India. Out of which, 30 professors were published in Standford University. Moreover, you have got a seat in B.Stat which is considered one of the toughest examinations for Mathematics in Asia. You should base your judgement on the basis of a stereotype as letting go of this opportunity will be a wrong decision. Almost 50% of the batch consists of Non-Bengalis here at ISI Kolkata. There is no need to worry as the institute also has a rigid anti-ragging policy.Read more

Ques. Which course should I choose if I get a chance to study at ISI Kolkata, a B.Math or a B.Stat?

● Top Answer By Aniket Sinha on 07 Oct 21

Ans. Both B.Stat and B.Math are different courses being offered at different campuses at ISI Kolkata and ISI Bangalore respectively. There are only a few common subjects in both courses.  The choice ultimately depends on your choice and interest. You can go through the syllabus of both courses and understand the topics. Find whichever interests you, you can choose to be research-oriented like B.math students or go for M.stat or other courses, if you choose so. You can apply for only 1 course because the institute conducts the entrance of both courses at the same time and day. You will be able to appear for only one of them.Read more
