Internships Opportunities:

Internships from various pharmaceutical industries and research institutes, also stipend around 5k -10k per month, internships during a bachelor's life help in gaining recommendations from the teacher which helps in further higher studies in good research institutes.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The per Semester Fee is nearly 4.2k. there are many scholarships for reserved candidates, as well as those who are financially weak like the Swami Vivekananda scholarship and our college arranges relaxation for financially weaker students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose these courses cause I thought it is compatible with me and helpful to my future growth. There are a large no of faculty members while the number of students is small. All the faculty members have PhD and the teaching methods are good. The term exams were all timely and the difficulty was moderate to pass.

Campus Life:

There are two annual festivals, one is Basant Utsav and the other is Freshers. Except that each department conducts its own freshers. There are plenty of books in the general library as well as a departmental library. There is an annual sports day and a newly found science club along with its YouTube channel.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My aim to to become a chemistry researcher so I decided to opt for chemistry as my main subject in graduation. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:30 in my college which is moderate. The professors are well-qualified and helpful the take care of every doubt that we can face in both theory and practice. The teaching methods are quite old school but helpful we can say tried and tested. We used to face semester exams every 6 months which is at the end of the semester which used to be moderate to pass and other than that we had to face practical and internal too which were quite easy to pass.

Campus Life:

We used to have our annual fest sparcal which used to be in the month of December to February. Overall, the campus life is good library has a variety of books in various courses and also staff is very helpful. Sports facilities are professional level the guides and grounds are well maintained and the practice session is well planned.

Ques. How good is Khalsa College Amritsar for a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry?

● Top Answer By Debanjan Nag on 28 Dec 21

Ans. Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET) is located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. According to the reviews online, Khalsa College is really good when it comes to overall campus atmosphere, practicals and inter college activities. It was the first one to offer a B.Sc. course in Punjab. But the academics and curriculum is average and needs a lot of improvement. There are only a limited number of the companies visiting the campus every year for all the departments. The faculty and management staff are not very cooperative. The faculty often skips classes and are unable to complete the syllabus. This has led to students opting for self studying rather than regularly attending classes. It is suggested that you look for other options as well, because to succeed ahead you will require better guidance and approach for the course.Read more

Ans. In the NIRF rankings 2020, the Jadavpur University has secured 5th position in the 'University' category, 17th position in the 'Engineering' category, and 12th in the 'Overall' category. St. Xavier's college has ranked 7th in the NIRF rankings 2020. Given below is a brief overview of the BSc(Hons) Chemistry program at Jadavpur University and St. Xaviers Kolkata. Particulars SXC JU 1st Year Fee Rs.85,000 Rs.2,400 Highest CTC 14 LPA 42 LPA Average CTC 9.5 LPA 19.96 LPA Admission: St. Xavier's College accepts applications from students who studied Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics at their +2 level. The selection is based on an index calculated with the board marks at the +2 level. At the Jadavpur University, admissions are offered on a merit basis (+2 marks) for undergraduate science courses. Ques. Which is better for a B.Sc (hons.) in chemistry, St. Stephens College or Hindu College? Please answer with reference to fee structures and teacher

● Top Answer By Ritik Bose on 14 Aug 20

Ans. Below given table shows a comparison between the two of the best colleges under Delhi University to pursue B. Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry. ST. STEPHENS HINDU NIRF RANKING #1 #3 TOTAL FEES (APPROX.) 1.2 LACS 55K ACCREDITED NAAC ‘A’ GRADE NAAC ‘A+’ GRADE Academics: According to previous year, the cut off for admission to Hindu college for B. Sc (hons.) in Chemistry was 96.66% and in St. Stephen's it was 92%. The faculty contingency in both the colleges is very well reputed, dedicated and felicitated having won many recognitions to their name. It is not justified to distinguish between the teachers as all are almost at par with academic qualifications, achievements but are restricted by curriculum and different teaching patterns. Both the colleges organize national conferences and workshops for the holistic development of the students and to gain industry exposure. Placement Opportunities: The key feature which sets Stephen's apart is that when it comes to applying abroad for higher studies or internships or fellowship programmes, a lot of graduates have had the opportunity to do so owing to the scholarships and collaborations with foreign universities like Oxford, Yale and Cambridge. It has a more disciplined and rigorous and calm aura about itself not being as actively a part of the very famous DU fests as compared to other colleges. There are many ongoing research projects funded by SERB and UGC. Top recruiters being Hetero drugs, Emami, Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education, BCG etc. offering a median salary of around 9LPA. In the Hindu college, the median salary package for B. Sc in Chemistry at offer was 5LPA and average placement rate was low as most of the graduates sought to opt for higher studies. The top recruiters were DE Shaw, KPMG, IndiaBulls amongst others. Organizations like Empower India, Philip Morris International, Outlook rolled out internship opportunities too.Read more

Ques. Which is better for a B.Sc in Chemistry (Hons.), St. Xavier's Kolkata or Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Ipsha Sharma on 22 Feb 21

Ans. The general preference is that none of the two colleges is a feasible option for pursuing B.Sc (Chemistry). The reasons behind this are listed separately below for both the colleges: Xavier’s is not a good option for chemistry. The faculty is not equipped in teaching in-depth concepts. They do not provide the requisite exposure for broadening a student's knowledge base. A general tendency of faculties is that they don’t recommend books. A huge amount of knowledge is gained by using internet sources which in turn makes them dependent on electronic sources. Internal politics is also an inevitable element of the campus culture. A lot of distraction is inherent in the day-to-day activities. Jadavpur University also gives very less exposure in terms of the knowledge base. A large amount of attention is focused on internal politics which hampers the educational and professional growth of the candidates. Both the colleges reflect quite a dismal picture for this particular course, but even if the choice has to be made it will shift towards Xavier’s Kolkata as in: It is the only NAAC Accredited A++ institute in West Bengal making your degree more reputed and acceptable. It will provide larger scope for better career options in the market. It allows individuals to look out to different personality domains of a candidate as it gives opportunity in the form of various cultural & social events. Overall, Xavier’s is a better option than Jadavpur University in every aspect.Read more

Ques. Which one is the best for a BSc in chemistry (hons) amongst: St. Xavier's, Presidency and Jadavpur University?

● Top Answer By Anirudh Pandeya on 27 Jun 21

Ans. Jadavpur University is a top-notch university for pursuing B.Sc. But, I will suggest you join ST. Xavier’s. The reason behind this is that it has recently fallen trap to a huge amount of politics, which students rather should not be part of. On the other hand, if considering St. Xavier’s, then it is completely not part of any of it. Alongside that, if you search for the best college for B.Sc in India, then St. Xavier’s will be among the top 5. In fact, the major upside is that if you are planning further for your higher studies as well, like M.Sc or MBA, then you can similarly find various kinds of privileges in XLRI itself. But if you want to do MSc then, most students join IIT or IISc. So, consider all these factors, and choose the institute that works best for you.Read more
