Ques. Is a B.Des. from DTU a good option?

● Top Answer By Raktim Tarafdar on 05 Jul 23

Ans. My friend was in the second batch of this course. She was hesitant initially as the course was relatively new and everyone was against her idea of taking it. She believed that everything is new initially and someone has to take it to make it old.  India has a very limited number of design colleges and it’s quite difficult to make it into one. The limited options and the huge crowd makes the completion tougher.  Faculties : The faculty of Design at DTU comprises highly qualified professors from IITs, NIDs, and highly renowned colleges like the Royal College of Art, UK. They will be your mentors and guide you excellently. Value : DTU enjoys a good brand value that will be reflected in your degree. Its rich legacy will open multiple doors of opportunities for you. Internships : The internship opportunities are great offering tremendous exposure and industrial experience. Placements : Decent companies approach design students and offer good packages after acknowledging your skills. Infrastructure : Many labs are under construction such as CAD Lab, Soft and Hard material lab, and 3D Printing Lab. Other infrastructural facilities include a 159-acre campus and a library well-stocked with design books. Curriculum : The curriculum has been designed at par with foreign as well as IIT IDC Syllabi. The Course has specialization in the fields of Product Design, Visual Communication Design, and Interaction Design. Ultimately, bear in mind the fact that this course is new and it will take years for its credibility to reflect.Read more

Ques. What is the difference between the B-Des programme at IIT-Bombay and the B-Des programme at IIT-Guwahati?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 03 May 23

Ans. B.Des (Bachelor of Design) programs at IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati are both undergraduate programs that focus on design education. However, there may be some differences in terms of the specific curriculum, perspectives, experience, and course offerings at each institution. Experience: IIT Guwahati B.Des is known for its excellent experience in handling undergraduate students. The course is older than 2 decades and has been through constant revisions to make it industry relevant. IDC, IIT Bombay is also one of the best design schools in India for technical design, M.Des that provides great exposure to its students. Perspective: While IIT Guwahati strongly focuses on science as an important part of design, IIT Bombay does not. It solely focuses on design with little importance to technical stuff.  Faculty : The faculty pool of both institutes comprises extremely learned and experienced professors that are genuinely passionate about design and teach in such a way that students also fall in love with the course. Ultimately, how much you gain from this course depends on you only as it all is about learning, observing, and experimenting. No one can help you in design, you have to explore everything on your own.Read more

Ques. What is the scope of a bachelor of design from IIT Guwahati?

● Top Answer By Sohini Ghose on 04 May 23

Ans. Bachelor of Design or B.Des is a great program offered by IIT Guwahati. Here are a few pros and cons to give you a better understanding of the course Pros : Excellent placements: The Bachelor of Design at IIT Guwahati has amazing placements. The placement percentage is around 85-90%. The highest CTC in 2021 was recorded at INR 35 LPA and the average is in the range of 12-15 LP.  Easier grading: IIT Guwahati follows a relative grading system which means you will be graded relative to the students of your branch. This system is very easy and I know a student who had a 7.3 CPI of 7.3 in his first year but managed to score 9.2 in his third semester. Many others have an SPI above 9. Matter - The concepts taught are associated with the job roles you will be offered and the learning experience is great with very approachable professors. You will be given many projects to hone your skills.  Cons Owing to the general assumption, people will consider you inferior for joining this branch. However, it’s much more than just art. It comprises web designing, app designing and other designing elements. All in all, to make the most out of the program you will have to explore beyond academics and undertake challenging projects to broaden your knowledge base.Read more

Ques. Is IIT Guwahati safe for South Indians from Hyderabad? How do they treat southern people that are IIT Guwahati BDes students?

● Top Answer By Sohini Ghose on 05 May 23

Ans. IIT Guwahati is safe not only for South Indians but for every student of the college. The campus is very beautiful and the serene ambiance attracts many across the country. There is no reason to feel insecure here. If it’s the Hyderabad people you are worried about, lay your worries to rest because they are the most friendly you will find.  There is no impartial attitude towards students from any state and professors treat every student equally. Despite the language barrier, you can see great harmony between the students as they can often be seen playing together.  You can find diverse peer groups here and the love for Engineering and nature can be seen as the binding factor between them. Parents of certain children often hesitate from sending their children to the Northeast but trust me after a few months you will think of IIT Guwahati as your home, such is its charm.Read more
