PhD at IISER TVM is five-year doctoral-level program offered in various disciplines such as Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences. The program is spread across 10 semesters and is offered in two sessions of an academic year, including Varsha and Vasantha semesters that start in August and January, respectively. The institute grants admission to various Ph.D. specializations based on scores secured in national-level entrance exams. Shortlisted candidates are called to appear in a written test or interview.

  • Master’s degree in Biological Sciences/ Mathematics/ Bioinformatics/Agricultural Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences or a Bachelor Degree in Medicine (MBBS) with 7.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale
  • Candidates must have qualified CSIR-UGC-JRF/GATE examinations. Candidates with DST INSPIRE Ph.D. fellowship or any other fellowship through any national level exam

Chemical Sciences
  • Candidates must be holding a Master’s degree in Chemical Sciences witha 7.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale

Physical Sciences
  • Master’s degree in Physical Sciences/Material Science/ Engineering with 7.5 CGPA in 10-point scale or BE/BTech in the relevant areas
  • Candidates must have qualified CSIR-UGC-JRF/GATE/ JEST (Physics).Candidates with DST INSPIRE Ph.D. fellowship or any other fellowship through any national level exam
Mathematical Sciences
  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline with 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (or first-class equivalent)

Or

  • BS-MS/MSc students from any of the IISERs/IITS/IISc with CGPA 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from national level test eligibility related criteria

IISER TVM Ph.D Admission Criteria

Admission to PhD at IISER TVM is based on a Written test followed by a personal interview conducted by the university. Candidates with CSIR, UGC Fellowship and those who have completed a master’s degree from IISERs/IITS/IISc with CGPA of 8 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from written test.

IISER TVM Ph.D Scholarships

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana scholars who get admission into the Ph.D. program at IISER will draw fellowship as per KVPY norms. Ph.D. Scholars receive Rs 10, 000 as a fellowship grant until successful completion of the course work. 

Afterward, the fellowship will be raised to comply with the existing CSIR-UGC norms. Besides the institute supports bright fellows through DST-INSPIRE, DST-Ramanujan, and DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellowships to carry out their independent research at IISER TVM

Ans. Candidates selected through DST-INSPIRE, DST-Ramanujan, and DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellowships should submit their applications to the Head of the respective schools of IISER TVM

Ques. Can I apply for Ph.D. in more than one school at IISER-TVM?

Ans. Yes, you can apply. The evaluation will be done separately for each school.

Ques. Do I need to submit the Ph.D. application by post at IISER-TVM?

Ans. No. Just fill in the application form online with the required documents. Offline submission is not required

Ques. What is the application fee for Ph.D. at IISER-TVM?

Ans. The application fee is Rs. 500/- for general category students and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST applicants
