About IISS

The Indian Institute of Soil Science, also abbreviated as IISS, is one of the topmost institutes in India. It is an autonomous institute for higher learning which was established in the year 1988. It is situated in the heart of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Bhopal. It has been established under the approval of the Indian Council of Agriculture (ICAR) by the Ministry of Agriculture. It is also been authorized by the Government of India for advanced research in the field of soil sciences.

The Indian Institute of Soil Science has emerged as a leader in the field of basic and strategic research on soils in the country. It is one of the best institutions which provide young scientists. Moreover, many foreign visits and eminent visitors offer the students to attend international conferences and seminars. The institutes also provide the students with abroad visits. It has received United Nations’ FAO Prestigious King Bhumibol World Soil Day in 2021.

The institute offers various courses to students of science background. The courses which are provided by the institute are M.PHIL in Science, Research Associate, Senior Research Fellow, Junior Research Fellow, and Field Assistant. The institute also provides various research divisions such as Soil Physics, Soil Chemistry and Fertility, Soil Biology, Environmental Soil Science, Remote Sensing, and GIS Laboratory.

IISS Bhopal Courses & Fee

Programs	Program Details	Selection Basis
Field Assistant	Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: Candidate must be Graduates in agriculture/ horticulture/ botany or any other related discipline.	Selection will be based on score in the NET/GATE exam (for SRF and RA), performance in interview and/or written test.
Junior Research Fellow	Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: The applicant must have passed M. Sc in Microbiology/ Agricultural Microbiology/ Soil Science’sAgricultural Physics with 4 or 5 years of Bachelor’s degree and 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PH candidates).
Senior Research Fellow	Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: The candidate must have passed M. Sc Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry/ M. Sc Soil Physics/ Agricultural Physics/Soil Science/Geology/ Agronomy/Basic Sciences with 4 or 5 years of Bachelor’s degree.
Research Associate	Duration: 3 Years Eligibility: The candidate must have passed M.SC Soil Science/ Agricultural Physics/ Environmental Science/Agriculture Meteorology along with 4 or 5 years of Bachelor’s degree with minimum first division or 60% marks; moreover, the candidate must have at least 2 years of research experience.
