Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants was established as the Central Indian Medicinal Plants Organization (CIMPO) in 1959. It is also known as CIMAP and its research headquarter is situated at Sultanpur - Lucknow Road.

CIMAP has four research centers situated in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pantnagar, and Purana. All of them/ CIMAP are engaged in the field of science and business of medical and aromatics plants.

CIMAP Lucknow PhD Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates should have completed M.Sc. In Life Sciences/ Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology/Bioscience/Biochemistry/Plant Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics with minimum 55 % marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PH).
- Those candidates who have cleared CSIR-UGC NET Exam/ICMR-NET Exam/DBT-JRF Exam/ GPAT or some other exam resulting in JRF/SRF fellowship tenable at CSIR-CIMAP are eligible to apply under the Programme to perform advanced research.
CIMAP Lucknow PhD Selection Criteria:
- Those candidates who had cleared above mentioned CSIR-UGC NET Exam or equivalent will be enrolled for the PhD program in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
- Candidates will be called for an Interview which is mandatory for all candidates.
- The chosen candidates will need to complete Pre-Ph. D. courses in any one of the 3 sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology & Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of the interest as the Core courses with optional classes, in two semesters, spread over one year.
- On the successful completion of courses (OGPA 6.5/10.0 for general & OBC category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST//PH) students will be eligible for Registration as CIMAP-JNU Ph.D. scholar under the supervision of CSIR-CIMAP scientists available as Guide to perform research on a scientific topic covered under aforementioned areas at CSIR-CIMAP.
- Selected candidates can take admission by submitting the required documents.
How to Apply for Ph.D. in CIMAP?
- Admission to the CIMAP-JNU Ph.D. program will be made purely based on interviews.
- Walk-in-interview will be held in the month of August at CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow.
- Before the interview, the candidate must fill an application form from the website (https://www.csir.res.in/).
- Application form to be accompanied with a nonrefundable processing fee in the form of a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- (Rupees 2 hundred only) for General candidate and Rs. 100/for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidate fee drawn in favor of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow.
