NIFT Kannur Admissions 2024: Dates, Eligibility, Selection Criteria, Application Process

NIFT offers B.Des under these four specializations-

• B.Des. (Fashion Design)
• B.Des. (Textile Design)
• B.Des. (Knitwear Design)
• B.Des. (Fashion Communication)

Eligibility Criteria 

• The candidate must have cleared 10+2 examination of any recognized board

                                                              OR

• He must have secured a passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

                                                              OR

• He must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE

                                                              OR

• He must have cleared General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

Note- The maximum age limit to apply for the course is 23 years as on 1st October. For candidates of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, a person with Disability category, there is a relaxation of 5 years.

Selection Criteria

Candidates need to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). The shortlisted candidates will further have to appear for a Situation Test. In the final merit list, CAT score is assigned 50% weight age, GAT score is assigned 30% weight age while Situation Test is assigned 20% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for B.Des is a written test of a total duration of 2 hours. It consists of 100 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Eligibility Criteria

1. The candidate must have passed 10+2 examinations of any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. OR
2. He must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma in any branch of engineering recognized by AICTE. OR
3. He must have secured a pass grade in Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
4. He must have cleared General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB).

Note- The maximum age limit to apply for the course is 23 years as on 1st October. For candidates of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, person with Disability category, there is a relaxation of 5 years.

Selection Criteria

The selection process to B.FTech comprises General Ability Test (GAT).

GAT (General Ability Test) for B.FTech is a written test of a total duration of 180 minutes and consists of 150 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability & English Comprehension, Analytical & Logical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Case Study.

National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kannur provides a Master’s degree in Fashion Management (M.F.M) and in (M.Des.).

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification for M.Des. (Design Space) and MFM:

• Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India
• Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

Selection Criteria

M.Des.

The candidates must appear for the CAT and GAT exam. Those shortlisted in the examination shall further be called for the GD/ PI round. CAT score shall be given 40% weight age, GAT score shall be given 30% weight age while GD/ PI score shall be given 30% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for M.Des is a written test of a total duration of 120 minutes and consists of 120 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

MFM

The candidates need to appear for the GAT Entrance Exam. The shortlisted candidates shall be further called for the GD/ PI rounds.  GAT carries a weight age of 70% and GD/ PI score carries a weight age of 30%.
