National School of Drama, NSD, is a theatre training institute situated in the national capital of the country, Delhi. This institute is an autonomous organization established under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. In was set up in 1975, in 2005 it was given the status of the Deemed University.
Later on, in 2011, this status was revoked after the NSD society asked for deemed status to be revoked since National School of Drama could undermine the professional training, autonomy, flexibility required in the creative fields such as theatre.
- NSD offers Diploma program in Acting and Theatre Techniques and Design.
- The basic eligibility criteria for admission to Diploma program is a Graduation in any subject from a recognized University in India or Abroad.
- The candidate seeking admission should have participated in at least 6 different theatre productions.
- Such candidates should have attached document proof of the theatre experience i.e. certificate of participation, brochure, leaflet, newspaper clips, etc.

Apart from these two wings the school also has an active Extension Program, where the NSD alumni conduct various workshops across the nation, some in Nepal and Bhutan, for adults and children. Along with the introduction to the theatre, this work looks to develop personality and expand the emotional horizon of the participants.

NSD Diploma Admission 2023
The admission in the National School of Drama takes place in two phases- first is the NSD entrance exam, which is the preliminary exam. If the aspirant is selected then they have to appear for the second phase of the test, which includes a five-day final examination workshop within the campus.

Eligibility-
- The student must have completed the graduation in any stream from any recognised university in India or Abroad.
- The aspirant must have done at least six theatre productions, with attached document proof of theatre experience.
- Letter of recommendation from at least one theatre expert.
- The aspirant must have the working knowledge of both Hindi and English language
- The minimum age of the candidate should be 18 and maximum age should be 30 during the admission.
- The candidate must be medically fit to take the admission in the NSD. The candidate has to submit a medical fitness certificate during the time of admission in the NSD.

For the admission in NSD, the aspirants can fill the form both online or offline. For online form filling process, the aspirant shall visit the official website of the college and register themselves and fill the application form after paying the amount of Rs.50/-.
For the offline process, the candidate has to write to the “The dean Academics, National School of Drama, Bhawalpur House, Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi, 110001. Along with the demand draft of Rs250/-, including postal charges for the prospectus and application form, payable at Delhi, in favour of “Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi”.
