The Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Pune is the third oldest Educational Institute in India which was founded in the year of 1821. The H.R.D. Ministry, Government of India, awarded it the status of a Deemed University on 5 March 1990. It started functioning as Deemed University from 1 June 1994.
The Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute conducts courses at Postgraduate and Doctoral level in the fields of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Linguistics, Lexicography, Sociology, Anthropology and Sanskrit studies.
At the postgraduate level, Deccan College offers Master of Arts (M.A) degree programs in three different specializations. All of these courses hold a duration period of two years. The intake capacity for each of the specialization is 60 seats.
In order to seek admission to the M.A. program, a candidate need to hold a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or B+ or equivalent grade of a recognized University.
Admission to the M.A degree program is done on the basis of merit in the last qualifying examination i.e. Graduation level examination. The candidates belonging to reserved category will be given a relaxation of 5% marks in the eligibility criteria.

At the Doctoral level, the institute offers The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree to the research aspirant candidates. The duration period of the MPhil programs is one and half years. The intake capacity for each of the specialization is 10 seats.
For admission to the MPhil programs, aspirants must hold a postgraduate degree in the relevant discipline with minimum required marks.
Admission to the MPhil degree program is done through an Entrance Test. However, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria listed in the table below.

In addition with MPhil degree, the institute offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs at the doctoral level in diversified domains like Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Linguistics, Lexicography and Sanskrit Studies. The maximum duration of the Ph.D. program is five years.
In order to seek admission to the Ph.D. program, a candidate needs to hold a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks.
Admission to the Ph.D. degree programs shall be done through an Entrance Test. However, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria to get admission to the PhD course at Deccan College.
