Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) is a deemed university providing Fisheries Education, located in Mumbai. The university provides only two courses i.e M.F.Sc and Ph.D in the areas of Fisheries and Agricultural education. The university offers education at the postgraduate (PG) and Doctoral level.

At the PG level, the university proffers Master of Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) under 11 diversified specializations. The duration of this Master’s degree programme is two years. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) with a minimum of 60% marks under the 10+2+4 with system are eligible to apply for admission. Candidates having an overall grade point average (OGPA) of 6.50 out of 10.00 are considered eligible to apply in the concerned course.
A combined examination for the award of ICAR Junior Research Fellowship and admissions to 100% seats of Master's Degree Programme at CIFE is conducted by the Education Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

At the Doctoral level, the institute offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree under several specializations. Each of the specialization takes three years to complete the duration period.
For admission into the Ph.D. programme in Fisheries, An All India Competitive Written Examination shall be held in June at Mumbai. The candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria will be permitted to appear at the Entrance Test. For rest of the Ph.D specializations, a written test covering the subject matter shall be conducted before the interview.
