About GCT
Government College of Technology is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai was started in July, 1945. GCT offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Doctoral programs in all major departments.
- The Government College of Technology, Coimbatore formerly known as Arthur Hope College of Technology
- The College was renamed as the College of Technology and was affiliated to the University of Madras in 1951
- Initially only Civil and Electrical Engineering branches were incepted at GCT in the year 1952
- The main building was opened by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India on 8th October 1959
- The five-year Semester System was introduced from 1968-69, three-year B.E. Degree course for B.Sc. was introduced 1963-64
- Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the academic year 1970-71
- All the UG and PG courses are affiliated to the Anna University with effect from the academic year 2001-2002
- The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1994-95 and now completed its 59 fruitful years of excellence too

- College fees are 6k. Hostel fees are 6k. Mess fees are 2k monthly. Exam fees are approximately 2k. Government College of Technology in Coimbatore is one of the cheapest colleges. You can complete your BTech for less than 1 lakh.
- Here comes the major drawback of my college: the hostel facility. The rooms will be very small. The quality of the meals will be very bad. We will eat outside to avoid it here. The registration process is simple only. No, I didnt rent, and there is no option like that

Anyone who has secured a decent mark in their HSc can apply for this college. Application will be only available through tnea counseling. After having results are announced, the counselling form will be released Reservation benefits will be provided to weaker sections

Anybody with a decent cutoff in the 12th board can apply here through the Tnea counseling. The application form is available on the website. The fee is around 2500. After the results are announced release notification. Reservation benefits are there. Many seats are unoccupied.
