About Coimbatore Institute of Technology
Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), was established in the year 1956 by the V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust (VRET). The college is a government-aided, autonomous engineering college. It was made autonomous in 1987. CIT was initially affiliated to the Madras University till 1980, after which the affiliation was transferred to the Bharathiar University. The Institute is now under the affiliation of Anna University (from 2001). CIT has 13 different departments such as Physics, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, etc. The Institute offers a total of 7 undergraduate programs, nine postgraduate programs, three five-year integrated M.Sc. programs along with Ph.D. research programs.

Coimbatore Institute of Technology Admission
Admissions for all courses in CIT are made based on the marks secured in the respective Entrance Exams and 10+12 or equivalent qualifying examinations followed by a counseling session. the accepted entrance tests are- JEE Mains, TNEA, CIT-CET, TANCET, GATE, CIT-MSc depending upon the course applied for.
How to Apply?
- Candidates will have to download the application form available on the website and fill the form.
- Before filling the form, students are required to register on the official TNEA website.
- After the results of the related entrance exams are published, students will receive a rank list based on which counselling will take place. Students can register for counselling on the above mentioned TNEA website.
- All seats are allotted based on the counselling by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, and Anna University for BE/ BTech and ME/ MTech/ MCA programs, respectively.
- Candidates applying for MSc Integrated courses will have their selection process based on the CIT-MSc Entrance Exam conducted by the Institute, followed by a personal interview for shortlisted candidates. A small fee of INR 1000 is payable for all students applying for MSc.
- All applying candidates are required to have the following documents handy at the time of application, counselling, and interview.

Coimbatore Institute of Technology Placement
The Placement Cell of CIT functions in a most efficient manner. The cell strives to employ methods that are most effective for students to gain exposure and get selected into companies worldwide. CIT engages its students right from the first day of their final year in activities like mock interviews, career guidance sessions, and workshops to enhance their knowledge about work life. It also has close contacts with various companies that conduct pre-placement presentations and campus interviews.
Students are given updates about the placement procedure and are kept on notices about the information on the industries visiting the Institute. The college appoints representatives from each department in addition to the coordinating faculty and placement cell members. The placement cell also has a library and communication lab to improve student’s general aptitude and communication skills.

- State Government Scholarship for Backward/ Most Backward and Denotified Community Students from Tamil Nadu – Applicable to students from MBC/ BC/ DNC communities with an annual income of less than INR 2 Lakhs per annum.
- Adi Dravidar Welfare Higher Education Special Scholarship Students from Tamil Nadu – Students from SC/ ST communities with an annual income of less than INR 2 Lakhs are eligible to apply. Students must take residence in the Hostel only.
- Teacher’s National Welfare Fund Scholarship (Tamil Nadu) – Applicable to students whose parents are teachers.
- National Handicapped Finance and Development Scholarship – Differently Abled students with a financial income of less than INR 3 Lakhs per annum with a 50% aggregate score in previous examinations are eligible.
- Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare Scholarship – Applicable to all children and dependants of ex-servicemen.

- Library – Established in 1956, the CIT library is built over an area of 1302 sq. Meter. The library provides a massive range of e-services and is equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of books, journals, and research papers. The library provides students with access to databases all around the world from which they can access study material to cater to their educational needs.
- IT Resource, and Maintenance Cell (ITRM) – The ITRM is responsible for managing and catering to any faults in the computers and network connectivity. The ITRM cell has more than 50 machines that are accessible by the students and faculty. It has high-speed internet connectivity and optical fiber connections all around the campus.
- Sports – CIT has a well-equipped gymnasium, cricket and football ground, and also a 400-meter stadium. The Institute is very enthusiastic about games and organizes and hosts many inter and intra sports meets throughout the academic year.
- Transport – The Institute provides transportation facilities for all its students. The college has a vast fleet of buses that are segregated into A, B, and C, which each cover a specific area.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at Coimbatore Institute of Technology?
One of my friends graduated from this college in 2020 and following are his recommendations to the juniors as per his recent experience.
Networking
- You need to build a good network of friends. It will help you in your career development.
- Try to remain in contact with students who are good in academics. You do not have to be perfect but maintain a healthy circle around you.
- You shouldn’t deprive yourself of having fun, but don’t lose your main focus.
Hostel Life
- The hostel life of CIT will provide you with a memorable stay.
- CIT Alumni can survive in any worst situation as they survived their stay in the hostel.
- You must accept your living environment with a positive and happy attitude.
- There are four boys hostels in CIT- Palani Hostel, Malai hostel, Thirumalai Hostel and Vellingiri hostel. You will experience everything in these hostels during your course.
Food at Mess
- Breakfast and Lunch will be fine but dinner is the worst. You might not like it but you will get used to it.
- There are many restaurants around the college campus as a backup. One among them is Lakshmi Mess is quite popular among students.
Water Facility
- Drinking water facilities in the hostel might get out of order sometimes. If you face such issues simply ask your hostel warden to get it fixed.
- You can also buy water cans temporarily or use boiled water.
Academics
First Year
- Your first and second semester will not be tougher. Maintain a good CGPA from the first semester itself. 8 CGPA is good in my opinion.
- Due to the strict curriculum, you will not get enough chances to contact your seniors.
- You will be more involved in exploring and understanding your department.
Second Year
- You will feel the course load during semester 3. But don't lose hope.
- Be prepared to face laboratory projects and assignments. Don't feel too much pressure, just set your time accordingly and learn from it.
Till semester 4 you will know everything about your department and college. Try to participate in different activities as much as you can.
Third-year
- Semester 5 syllabus is more advanced than your previous semesters. Make use of it, as it is the first step towards your career.
- Apart from your academics, participate in workshops and conferences and make yourself ready for the industry. Work on your aptitude and interview skills.
Final Year
The sixth and final semester is very important, where the placement scenario comes from. Don’t worry if your friends get placed, just work on your aptitude and interview skills, and apply to several companies.
Do not worry much about the first year, just follow the above rules and enjoy your college life.
