The MEng degree is a course-based program where students are required to complete courses and an on-campus research project. Engineering Physics is about understanding and advancing knowledge and technologies used in a wide range of state-of-the-art systems including optical communications, sensors for biomedical and environmental applications, lasers and LEDs, photovoltaics, and nuclear power systems.

  • The course duration is 2 years.
  • The areas of research of the program include:
    • Nano and microdevice engineering
    • Nuclear engineering and energy systems
    • Photonics
    • Biomedical engineering
    • Smart systems
  • A candidate for the M.Eng. degree is required to complete a minimum of eight half courses
  • Total Unit Count : 30, which comprises of : 
    • At least three of these half courses must be from Engineering Physics
    • Remaining half courses must be technical courses
    • Candidate must complete the course ENG PHYS 733 (six units)
    • On-campus research project of four months
  • After a minimum of one year in the M.Eng. program, a student may transfer to the Ph.D. program without completion of the Master’s, upon successful completion of a transfer examination.
  • A written report must be submitted prior to the transfer exam, which itself is oral and includes a presentation

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have to complete an honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering or physical science or mathematics from a recognized university.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of B (73 – 76%) to enroll in this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a 3-year UG degree must have a substantial background in computer science or software engineering or a related field.
  • Students must have a B- minimum average grade, based on a full-year equivalent of final year courses.

Submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program, however, if students have given the GRE exam then it is recommended to submit the scores (minimum 300) for a better chance of admission.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
