- Before deciding on the thesis or coursework option, students who are contemplating future doctoral studies should note that some doctoral programs require the completion of a Master of Laws degree which includes a thesis.
- Both thesis and coursework LLM students are required to take the Graduate Seminar on Legal Education and Legal Scholarship.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students should obtain high standing in a UG or first law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent) from a recognized university.
- Students hold at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.3 scale Dalhousie's Scale.
- In exceptional circumstances, the university will accept students whose previous degree is not in law but in cognate fields. The ability to conduct independent research and work easily in the English language is a prerequisite for admission.
- Students applying for admission are required to submit results of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
Indian Student Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Completed a 4-year UG degree with an upper second class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Or, students must have a minimum average of grade B+ (75% or above) for UG studies.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

- Confirmation of Employment Form: Students must be emailed as an attachment by applicant or referee.
