- The program has been designed to be at the forefront of teaching and learning in the chemical sciences by incorporating an emphasis on conceptual learning and the integration of inquiry-based learning experiences, computer-assisted learning, and undergraduate research opportunities.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Following are the academic requirement of the programs are:
- Students must be complete their graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Proof of English language proficiency is required from applicants for whom English is not their first language or from those whose education was completed in any country where English is not the official language.
- For students who meet the academic requirements but not the English language requirement, conditional acceptance to VIU may be granted. In this case, admission is granted pending completion of VIU’s English Language Centre program (level AP5).
- Courses in 1st year have different prerequisites. To satisfy all 1st year course prerequisites, students must complete all of the following B.C. Secondary School course requirements:
- A minimum grade of C in English 12
- A minimum grade of C+ in each of Chemistry 11 and 12 and Physics 12 (Principles of Physics 12)
- A minimum grade of B in Mathematics 12 (Pre-calculus 12 or Principles of Mathematics 12).
